Other than changing to a non removable head unit the best way is to ingrain in everyone to take it off when they walk away from the bike. The added bonus being that if someone tried to hop on and ride it away they won’t have any power without it.

Yeah 100%! Will be having a word with everyone on Monday and making sure we're being extra careful.

Friend of mine had one sent from Germany few weeks ago, asked me to set it up. Pretty nice spec on these compared to other brands with standard oem components. Rides nice albeit a bit nervous, he says it's better loaded up.
Perfect for him as he lives in a smaller city house and the Yoonit sits there in the hallway. Would be even better is it had a system to move the bars out 90° for even more space saving.

A couple of my colleagues have just bought Ginkgo Bikes, which are a similar sort of thing, but with a larger front wheel. Will let you know how they behave as the road/gravel tests start rolling in.
They arent built yet, but here is an image of one;

Anyone know if anyone in UK is selling the Omnium Wedgie bag? Omnium not shipping to the Uk due to Brexit...

Is this the one that hangs underneath? I’ve got one hanging up in the garage I’ve not touched for months and don’t really see me using if you don’t mind second hand?

We had another attempted theft of the Bosch unit from one of our Urban Arrows yesterday. This time whilst the rider was actually riding the bike! He had 2 teenagers on bikes pull up next to him and try and grab it. He slammed the brakes on and they disappeared. So brazen! He's a big guy as well, I wouldn't fuck about with him.

Hmm that's not a good development at all. Like I said before, it seems to really be common knowledge how easy they are to steal and they are definitely being targeted. Think everyone will be needing to swap over to the purions until it becomes common knowledge they are not easy to steal again.

Worrying to read this. Whereabouts did it happen?
-
• #9868
Yeah it's really not good! Both incidents were in totally separate parts of town as well, Holloway and Poplar. My only concern with using a Purion, or any other non-removable head unit would be the fact that you're then solely relying on a lock to immobilise the bike. Even a good quality D-lock probably isn't enough to stop a determined thief. An Urban Arrow plus Carla trailer plus load probably weighs about 200kg so isn't going anywhere without electric assist. I'm inclined to think that even though the likelihood of losing a £100 removable head unit is probably higher, the adverse effect of losing one occasionally is outweighed by the benefit of not being able to move the bike at all if the unit is in a rider's pocket. Just some initial thoughts though, I could well be talking bollocks and please correct me if I am!

I'm always paranoid about having my battery nicked. Comes in overnight or into a bag if I'm leaving the GSD anywhere out of sight for a while. Even if I'm nipping into the shop and don't want to carry it, I'll still make sure I take the key from the cafe lock so the wheel is locked and anyone who knows about the key doing both lock and battery doesn't have it easy. I will also lock through the frame above the battery so it's nigh on impossible to remove it. That and two kryptonite D-locks, a Litelock Core, an Abus cable lock for the saddle and seatpost and an Abus chain that connects to the cafe lock. My theory being they all need slightly different approaches to attack. E cargo means it's no bother carting them around, I don't notice them during normal use. Different locking again when at home, but I won't explain that here.

Slightly odd dream scenario would be to have the bike nicked with the battery off it, then replaced under insurance. Bingo, two batteries, profit. Bit extreme tho

A friend in Belfast left his GSD outside with only a shit cable lock and the cafe lock. They cut through his cable lock but were foiled by the cafe lock. Scum bags are not the brightest in South Belfast.

• #9874
Same here, Always take out batt and display no matter what length of time I am locking the bike.
-
• #9875
Also if the bike gets nicked without batt and display its close to £800 to replace them before the thief has to sell
Cheers, I'll look in to that.
