Whatevs, I guess we'll just sit back and cop the one cassette option that'll be available in the future; 8-50, and everything will be fine, especially the shareholder dividends.
Meanwhile, actual technological progress will become a thing of the past.

Does anyone have a lead on a 42/40t Silver narrow wide in 130 bcd? or will I have to oven pride a black one?

Looking to buy a groupset or mini groupset on the more economic side of the spectrum but be an upgrade from my current 105 r7000 which I’m running with cable disc. I have have been offered sram rival AXS. Has anyone got any experience with it? 12 speed seems a bit pointless to me but everything is going in that direction. I was initially interested in 11sp di2 ultegra but is this now completely unavailable? I saw that you can buy the shifters for a very reduced price especially rim brake ones but don’t know about getting all the accompanying bits individually . New territory for me. Any advice appreciated.

Rival AXS is good. The gearing options are great for the general public or gravel, not so much for road racing. The derailleur feels a bit clunker than the more expensive Force or Red, but it shifts better and have more capacity.

There's a few:

Awesome!
Garbaruk is the nicer one here I think!

Has anyone used Eagle derailleur with XPLR cassette? I am building a bike with Ratio 12 speed kit and it indicates they aren't compatible let alone optimal which is a bit surprising.
Not the end of the world but I really don't need 52t for trundling around Epping

Will 50t R7000 chainrings ever be produced again? Seems impossible to find them as spare and those available are just £10/20 less than a full chainset

Plenty of people have used Shimano 12 casettes with SRAM Eagle shifting set-ups. They come in 10-45 size.

Cross-posting from AQA:
What's the ideal groupset for a do-it-all road bike? I've got a Salsa Casseroll, which is currently set up fixed, but I'm wondering whether I can rationalise my stable down to just that one bike (plus my dadbike for shopping). It would need to be able to do brisk runs out for fitness, plus some light touring, so it would need some pretty low gears for gentle ascents of steep hills.
-
• #8767
are you asking groupset or gearing ?
I'd say a 1x11 shimano or sram thing with a 42 chainring and 11-40 cassette is perfectly fine for anything, if you don't mind the relatively large gear jumps

Well groupset really, At present I have 2x10 lightweight steel road bike (10-speed Campag Record) and an 2x5 old-school (80s - downtube friction shifters) audax/light tourer. Both have a low gear around 34x30/32. To rationalise those into one bike (no idea if it's really possible), I'd like to get at least that low, if not lower for short tours, but I'd also like something with reasonably snappy, close shifts for when I want to go and get some exercise on an unladen bike.

in this case maybe Grx 2x ? i've installed it on my partners gravel/do-it-all bike, with a 46-30 double chainset which is quite useful as it allows to use a 11-28, 11-30 or 11-32 cassette and get a large range of gearing up to 1:1 or more. realistically you will only spin out with 46/11 at over 45 kph

After being a staunch mechanical/maximum 11 speed fan, I'm looking to modernise for a new TT build. Rival AXS seems a pretty good deal, looks like it would make bike packing (into a box) easier, and the 1x (48 and 10-36) option would be more than enough range for where I'm racing. But I'm a noob and have questions as there are new scary standards and stuff. My current shopping list is:
2 x pairs blips
AXS Blipbox (this is quite a bit more expensive than expected)
AXS charger
Rival AXS rear derailleur
Flat top Force axs 12sp chain
AXS 11-36 cassette
Rotor Vegast cranks with Rotor 1 x AXS chainring (have BB86 so imagine DUB sketchy)
XDR freehub bodyAm I missing anything there to get a functional 1 x system? Feels quite simple compared to what I would need to buy for Di2.

You don't appear to have mentioned brakes/shifters, calipers, or rotors, or a battery (not included with a derailleur, usually).
Also, for tt'ing, I'd prioritise closer jumps, so (purely IMO) a 48/35 and a 10-30 setup would make more sense for a TT bike.
-
• #8774
The shifters are the blips and it's a TT bike so brakes are separate to the
functional 1 x system
I agree that the 10-36 will feel horrible for racing but each to their own. Good shout about the battery.

Ah - I’m guessing that the blip box replaces the satellite shifter link setup? Does an AXS TT setup have brakes totally independent of shifters then? I know my ancient mechanical BMC does, but I'd (for some reason) assumed that you couldn't do that with AXS. Thanks for the heads up - you learn something new every day!
Are those SKS something something? Thinking about winter commute right now
