  • I think you need a bigger hammer.

  • How did you get them early?! Very jealous...

  • Howleys had them for £17.99 pre-order last week so I ordered them and they shipped on Saturday.

  • Ah, interesting. I shall add them to the purchase list.

  • Funny you should say that the strategy round here is “If all else fails hit it with a big fucking hammer” 9/10 times it works a treat, last resort is fire.

  • 'Engineering'

  • These were both in my local Morrisons last weekend, couldn’t see any prices though!

  • This weekends builds

  • Want, Got, Got, Got,Got,Got,Got,Got.!

Speed champions are addictive, only £20 each, but that can soon add up, and some of the older ones are crazy money second hand. There is a limited edition Mclaren one which was given to members of the F1 team, I was offered it for £75, I politely declined.

  • Yeah. I shouldn't add them up but, top to bottom:

    £17.00
    £13.50
    £13.50
    £15.00
    £34.99
    £26.99
    £32.99

    That's a £150 I probably didn't need to spend :D

You would have made some money on that btw... £288 on bricklink at the moment.

  • Finally got around to finishing the bike. It’s fucking huge (speed champion for scale).

Nice build with lots of good details. Wouldn’t pay what Lego want but got it at Costco for £110 and it’s definitely worth that.

Now to find somewhere to keep it!!

  • Saw that at the Bike Show next to the real thing, keep meaning to pick one up.
Did see it on a snide site for £50 a while ago, but decided against it.

Edit: paddock stand is a nice touch

  • I hesitate to dare mention fakes here...

I had no idea there were shady copies of all the technics stuff on AliX until 5 minutes ago. There's a copy of the new DeLorean for £50.
If I put aside the obvious questions of morality with blatant counterfeiting, it's quite tempting for £50.
I've no doubt in my mind that the overall quality of it isn't going to be the same as the real deal.
I've obviously went down a rabbit hole on AliX looking at all the other fake technics stuff and now can't help wonder if its worth a punt.
Lots of them have reviews with photos etc but its best to take any reviews on AliX with a large pinch of salt.

Has any one bought any of these Lepin/Mould king kits? Any thoughts?

  • Any thoughts?

A few comments on this thread suggesting Lepin is particularly evil.

The Lego patents are expired, so there's no moral issue with making compatible components if you agree in general that finite patents are moral, but ripping off recent design work is another matter.

  • I had the bright idea of using the search function after I posted and seen that Lepin has been discussed here before.

Interesting about the patent, I didn't know it had expired.
I found this that had been posted years back in this thread https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iFELcl75CiY

I feel a wee bit conflicted, but I think I'm going to have to see for my self since the fake technics 911 is only £30.

I don't think I'll bother with the DeLorean. I'm a massive BTTF nerd and I'd like the box and all the extra bits that come with the real deal. The chap in the Lego shop assured me that more would be coming back into stock later in the year. I've had to stock alert emails in recent months, both around 3/4am, out of stock again by the time I'd read the email around 7am.
    I'll hold out.

  • I got a "technics" helicopter (42052) from JoyToyWorld last year (think the site might be dead now, or at least not selling bricks anymore)
Quality wise it was bang on, all the parts were there, instructions were the Lego ones (all are available online so not really hard).
Bags weren't numbered, so had to decant everything.

    Think it was about £50

  • Yarp I got the Panigali Ducati for peanuts.

No issues with quality, just bits missing.

Hard to send back to China.

  • You know it’s available on ‘back order’ on Lego.com right now?

    https://www.lego.com/en-gb/product/back-to-the-future-time-machine-10300

    Ships by august 18th

  • Holy shit. You’d think the stock alert would have alerted me to this.

  • I'm total scum, I was so sure I had some principles.
I'd even just said I'd hold out for the real deal, but when faced with the option of £150 or £50 right in front of me, principles went out the window.
Just ordered the fake DeLorean, I'll update how it turns out.

  • That’s a shame. I’ve got the real one coming

  • Yeah, I maybe felt a tiny ping of regret this morning.
We can do a build comparison when they arrive.

  • Lego seem to be a good company who provide great toys for kids and adults. Of all the companies worth counterfeiting, it does seem to be a poor choice.
