  • Everything has to be justified on a use of force form (unless you're the Met, probably)

Everything is supposed to be justified as a use/show of force (at least, that's what we were told in training). Even for "unarmed", racking out your baton (actually, first step was unholstering it, then raising it, then racking out, then clobbering - each a different level of "force") or unclipping the CS Spray holster was supposed to be justifiable and recorded. How much was actually recorded I am guessing was very low, but I didn't stick around long enough to find out.

  • We did a warrant for some department or other in the Slough area re human trafficking and prostitution. We had our briefing at Maidenhead police station and were told that this was being filmed by C4 and we, as the MOE (method of entry) and then search team were fitted out with cameras on our shoulders by the TV crew. None of us could remember which light on the cameras meant it was recording or on standby. Suffice to say whatever was recorded was littered with so many C words (mine) that they chose not to use any of it. I think the use now of body worn video should mean the filth play nicely but I won't hold my breath.
