• In trying to avoid GXP bottom bearing issues (which apparently don't exist anymore?) I've run into another issue:

    Frame: 68mm BSA
BB: Ultegra HT2 + single sided GXP adaptor (i.e. not a double sided Hope adaptor) on the inside of the NDS bearing (as per instructions).
    Crank: Sram Apex GXP

Issue: There doesn't seem to be enough axle length coming through the NDS cup for the crank to be tightened without on the bearing. The bearing either spins with the play in the NDS crank, or starts binding way before the NDS crank bolt is sufficiently torqued to remove play.

The only way it torques-up and spins is with the adaptor on the outside of the NDS bearing, but it thought rules were rules..?

TL;DR: GXP to HT2 adaptor only works when installed in reverse. Am I compromising anything by leaving it?

    Axle length with adaptor:

    Crank tightened up completely:

Axle length with adaptor and NDS bearing:

Axle length with adaptor assembled in reverse:

    Installed with adaptor in reverse:

    Thanks!

  • Hello
Seems like I have the same issue. The aluminum adapter ring is stuck on the crank and I can’t get the bottom bracket off. Can I ask how you resolved? Thanks

  • Hi,
I ran the cranks with no issues with the adaptor installed ‘in reverse’; the adaptor was never stuck on the axle/in the BB bearing.

I would soak it in penetrating oil and the try levering it off gently. If not, tap the raised circumference with a flat head screwdriver.

If all else fails, break out the Dremel.
