I have 1/2 portion left. Might freeze it and enjoy it in 20yrs like a vintage ale.

Finally got round to making my own kimchi.
Followed Maangchi’s recipe, but mixed up the ingredients for the stock a bit and added turmeric and extra ginger and garlic, also chucked some Wakame into the mix as well and used maple syrup instead of sugar.

Exploded out of the fermenting jar last night (over filled) so had to skim some off. Used it on my son’s lunch today

I normally but tofoo tofu but have heard it’s much cheaper to buy from Asian supermarkets. Are there any brands people would recommend please?
-

If you're lucky they'll have unbranded fresh stuff wrapped in too much clingfilm.

Woah! Sounds ace

Any recommendations for a restaurant/coffee shop/bakery near Tooting Broadway/Collierswood that I could go to for breakfast tomorrow?

The tofoo stuff is a lot firmer than the stuff you can get from asian supermarkets. Even the extra firm stuff. If you like it really firm the best thing to do is freeze it, defrost it and press it. Sorry if that's old info!

Cheers! I’ll dig my press out!

High tech! My usual press is a couple of baking trays and a casserole dish full of water, ha ha.

I’d really recommend one. Definitely meant I ate more tofu which is always a good thing.

I definitely don't need any encouragement to eat more tofu, ha ha. I actually kind of prefer my tofu a bit softer these days. I've got an air fryer which means you can get it nice and crispy on the outside and soft and chewy on the inside.
If you do pop down to an asian supermarket, keep an eye out for this stuff. It's absolutely banging but no doubt nutritionally catastrophic.

Help!!! My band are playing at the New Cross Inn in Camden tomorrow night. Can anyone recommend anywhere to get a half decent meal? Last time I was there it was mainly kebabs and mcdonalds…

Every time I play in Camden is Purezza.
However the new cross inn is in… New Cross. I have struggled round there, though last time was pre covid

Aaah I see; nowhere near Camden really! Explains why I was a bit underwhelmed 😂
Ok, hopefully I can get by with pasta pesto and trek bars. -

If you're happy with Indian food and a slight wander (about 10 minutes) there's Hullabaloo in Deptford just off the high street.
There is a nice vegan crumble place called Crumble Mania on New Cross Road if you just want sweet stuff.
If Uncle Winkle is open when you're there they do decent vegan takeaway chinese options according to my mate (can sit down too).
Other than that though it's just look at the pubs in the area to see if any take your fancy unfortunately, most of them have a Vegan option I think.

New Cross Inn is very close to Deptford High St, which has a few vegan options. There's (or was) a tiny vegan pub on New Cross Rd, opposite the end of Deptford High St. It looked really good, though I'd already eaten when I was in there so didn't have a chance to try the food.

I saw Crumble Mania from the bus, had no idea it was vegan!!
Gonna miss that VFC.
