I suspect mightily pissed off about the ferry situation (I would be). Second was his for the taking otherwise.

Second was only his if the ferry had been running and Adam had chosen not to go for it. I suspect Adam had found out about it so didn't try? So best case scenario they would be in the same situation as they are, but with UB in a better mood with fewer km in his legs.
