It’s like a visual and musical fever dream, in the best of ways. So many things are right with that movie, from showing Elvis’ struggles beyond just pills and burgers, and musically drawing the black musicians that influenced him and his influence on modern black musicians, and a very poignant commentary on a racially and politically divided US. Loved it.

I know I'm late on this one, but, Swiss Army Man... What a fucking great film!

I'm overdue a rewatch! I enjoyed it a lot when I saw it a few years ago.

Today's watching:
The Sacrifice at Prince Charles Cinema. It looked great, especially on the beautiful crackly 35mm, is brilliantly acted and is generally an amazingly crafted bit of cinema. My god it's slow though, I felt myself drifting off in the last 1/3rd. No real desire to see it again any time soon. Good call putting the best shot on the poster though.

Followed up at home with We're All Going To The World's Fair. Reccomend giving it a watch, really creepy and unsettling throughout. I even quite enjoyed the Alex G soundtrack.

really enjoyed Predator prequel spinoff thingy Prey tonight.

some of the english dialogue was super out of place and the french trappers were absolutely not needed especially when hammed up as much as they were, but I thought the main plot was spot on for what I want from something like this and enjoyed the little not so subtle nods to the original.

have to drop it a star because of the repeated dog-peril though. stresses me out and he was clearly a good boy

I'm now hoping there's a scene where a cat chases the 3 little lasers about.

Following on from recent Mad God/Phil Tippett chat i'd recommend The Frankenstein Complex for anyone interested in creature design/special effects. Plods along a bit at times but picks up towards the last third as the conflict with CGI and death/future of practical effects get discussed. Mind blowing how such a relatively small number of people have been behind so many iconic character visuals.

Songbird… 4th year of lockdown, COVID-19 mutates into covid-23 and messes everything up. Can an immune bike courier save his love from a quarantine camp?

I’d actually recommend it, for a lazy Sunday afternoon without much else going on. Several big names, and even the breakout actors were really good. Storyline is a bit weird tho.

I just watched the Italian film Dogman...fantastic performance from the lead actor. Some great scenes and well worth watching.

Kurt Vonnegut: Unstuck in Time

If you've ever had a passing interest in Kurt's work it's a total must watch

The Good Boss is a great dark comedy, and Javier Bardem was truly excellent in the lead role.

Close Encounters x monster horror x black cowboys with a dose of exploitation critique and the usual dark humour you get with this director, thoroughly enjoyable.

I worked on Nope, in the post sound department. Hard to have perspective after working on something for almost a year solid and I was worried that it’s flaws outbalanced it’s strengths. It’s personal preference obvs but glad to see it’s been pretty well received by and large !

Sound really was fabulous, props to you and your colleagues.

I watched Prey last night, was fun.

Just got my free Arrow video trial to watch all the movies that i obsessed over the VHS art in the video shop but never got round to watching. Kicking off with a Maniac cop/Exterminator double bill.

Walkers sensations are including 1 month free Paramount with a large bag of crisps.

Had Warcraft on in the background today. A bit better than I expected tbh. Lots of Easter eggs for the fans, featured a couple people from Vikings, it was fine.

Another spectacularly shit film from Jordan Peele. Fuck me, what a turkey.

Having a Denzel day. " King Kong ain't got shit on me" is one of his best delivered lines, ever!

And to deliver it standing so close to an oversized gorilla defecating above him shows real talent.

That must be in the "editor's cut".
