It’s like a visual and musical fever dream, in the best of ways. So many things are right with that movie, from showing Elvis’ struggles beyond just pills and burgers, and musically drawing the black musicians that influenced him and his influence on modern black musicians, and a very poignant commentary on a racially and politically divided US. Loved it.
Saw Elvis today, more style than substance but it looks great, sounds great and the early Memphis years were well shot. I didn’t know much about that period and until now had been informed by the line in Fight The Power. It’s got me intrigued to do some background reading. I’d watch again.
