Thanks for that, much obliged.

Thanks for that. It sounds like it’s one to avoid until they get it right. My mate is looking to buy a new one as he can do it in a cycle to work scheme, but being very enthusiastic he’s going to want to upgrade it. What should he buy?

How much rubber can you fit in the standard Brompton without mudguards? I’ve seen other 16” tyres available, for example the vans BMX tyres which come up wider than marathons etc. Anyone tried this?

37-40mm with guards

This is generally a great review I think on the P Line:

So what’s the c - line weight loss programme to reach commuter nirvana ?
-
• #11784
Cheers for that. I’ve advised my mate to skip the P Line.

Pass, but my two speed is currently 7.9kg and that is ideal for me to carry around when folded.

Smart, it's nice but not at the price range.

Hi all, been absent forever. After advice from the hive mind if possible.
Had my 3 speed for a couple of years now but really only started properly using it since about Jan for daily commuting.
It's developed a worrying knocking on the back wheel the last 10 rides or so and today is much worse. Tried to look at it over the weekend but I can't replicate it on the work stand. It's only happening when I'm actually on the bike riding, which is making it rather difficult to diagnose.
Looking down while riding this morning I could see/ feel the wheel knocking left/right.
Bearings? Or hub? The wheel doesn't seem out of true on the stand but if I wiggle the wheel left/right out of plane whilst sitting still there is a bit of movement. Having never had issues like this before I'm not sure where to start fixing.
Hopefully something just needs a tighten and it's not that I've destroyed the wheel being a 100kg fatty...

Probably the rear hinge pivot, it’s a wearable part that needs replacing every so often. If your off the bike, give it a push sideways where the rear half folds (just behind the bottom bracket) and see if that moves. If so, that’s where the knocking is. Best to get it fixed asap if it’s that bad, or else risk damage to the main frame

No I'm pretty certain that's still rock solid. I just tried as well.
Forgot to mention, the faster I'm going the faster the knocking is. It's directly correlated to the speed the wheel is turning hence thinking it's something on the wheel. Initially till today (and until I checked at the weekend) I thought it could have been something like a stone in the tyre, that's the kind of thing I mean about it speeding up the faster I'm going.

How old is the bike? Had the hub ever been serviced?
-
• #11791
Ummmm..... You put it together for me about July 20 I think.
No I've never had anything fully serviced on it. Not needed to. It's maybe done 30-50 miles before I started using it for the train commute in Jan 2/3 days a week for about 5 miles a day.
Basically I consider it to be fairly low mileage really. But scummy London grime and my natural hatred of washing bikes regularly could have effed it up

So it’s only with weight on the bike aka when your riding it?
In all gears?
Checked the obvious like brake / mudguard rubbing?
-
• #11793
Yeah it's only when I'm on it, can't replicate when it is on a work stand. Or just holding up
Yes in all gears.
No obvious rubbing at all. Brakes and mudguard all clear.
It's happening even when just coasting so it's not flex when I'm putting down massive watts either.

Sounds like the hub, could be the drive side bearing. Whereabouts are you?

North Kent, London during the week when I'm in work.

I have a Brompton adjacent question: how far apart are the frame mounting bolts for a Brompton luggage block?
I have a folder with 2 mounting bolts on the head tube about 30mm apart and I'm trying to work out if it'll take a Brompton luggage block.

Hi all, does anyone have recommendations for replacing the little wheels that you use for trundling it around when folded up? Currently having to do 5 point turns in the supermarket. I've had a little browse but am paralysed by choice. Thanks :)

a [non-Brompton] folder with 2 mounting bolts on the head tube about 30mm apart
I reckon you might need one of these

I use the Joseph Kousac ones, available from SJS. They are a bit bigger than the standard wheels, but roll so much better and look nicer in my view.
These are the ones I’ve got: https://www.sjscycles.co.uk/brompton-spares-accessories/joseph-kuosac-front-m6-easy-wheel-set-for-bromptons-light-version-silver/
Other colours and styles available. Pricy, but bromton tax…

Joseph Kuosacs on mine too.
I'd say here, @sbbohr is resident expert!
