  • Anyone know what options for older children are compatible/available for the Kona Ute long tail? I'm thinking something like monkey bars or a bench seat? Maybe the tern ones are compatible? Or is there a generic solution that can be adapted?

  • Are there any alternatives to a Carla trailer? Use case is lugging as many bikes as possible behind an Urban Arrow. I think the Carla we already have is great so wouldn't be opposed to getting a second, just wondering if there's anything else worth looking in to!

  • I got a set of the Yuba monkey bars from leftfield bikes and bolted them into the deck. They fit fine and are fairly easy to take on and off.

I also got a couple of basic bench cushions, I think from Holland bike shop, but I haven’t used them yet because my daughter’s five and currently still fits in a seat that clamps to the deck.

  • Great info- thanks! - any chance you could share a close up picture of the Yuba monkey bars fitting to the Ute?

  • My plan next year is a cushion seat ^^, stoker bars, fold down foot pegs and a partial rear wheel faring/ cover made from estate agent sign.

  • Sure. Hopefully these will work.

  • Brilliant that's super helpful.. it looks like that requires drilling into the wood then, which is what I expected, but just wanted to be sure before my partner accuses me of causing "irreversible damage" 😅

  • Yeah, I just drilled a hole for each bolt. I can’t think of a way of doing it without drilling through the deck. I think the penny washers on the underside are important for spreading the load.

  • Scroll back a few pages, pretty sure I just posted about trailers in this thread.

  • I thought as much but couldn't see it for some reason. Had a scroll back and found it though, thanks! I can't find a huge amount of info online about any of those but I'm probably being dense. Will have a proper look in to it tomorrow.

  • You can get replacement decks! Plastic and wooden ones

  • There aren't a lot of trailer reviews as they just aren't that many in use, high tier cargo trailers are a niche of a niche!
Would go with whatever has the best hitch for your bike, as that's a lot of the problem with trailers.

  • Yeah that makes sense. I'll do some research today and see what the options are.

  • The donkey trailers looked good. Bolt some mounts to it. Could even double decker it.
I think with such a specific use case getting someone to modify something would be good.
But depends if 'bikes' are normal or big heavy e bikes.

  • Anything you get needs a surge brake imo, especially if the brief is ‘carry as many bikes as possible’..

  • Hello. Does anyone have any actual experience with the rodford built big Billy?

  • mounts arent' great unless hes made something better now. But the trailers themselves are good. Pretty much everything would have to be imported by yourself, which isn't that bad so long as you do the paperwork properly.

  • Looks a lot like the Wilson brothers' donky bike..

  • Has anyone sourced an alternative aluminum box for a Bullitt?
I like the look of the big square ally boxes, and being able to lock it for multiple-shop trips. I do however baulk at paying the best part of £500 for one from larry vs harry/ a dealer.

  • the best option would be a Zarges Box, they are phenomenal
cheap option is a secondhand army surplus box from ebay

  • Check Gumtree/eBay for used ones I'd say.

If you prefer new, the go-to company is AluLock:

Prices shown are public prices, trade is 60% off so I'd advise looking for a UK distributor.

Brexit has added import tax and somehow VAT (Only Boris only knows where the VAT was going before Brexit) so prices can get SPICY

  • And I met @cake & his Omnium in real life today!
    Hello internet friend

  • I think ebay may be the one, get it roughly the right size. The Bullitt is on order so I'm planning these things out ready for when it arrives!
Also have some pine planking (old bed slats) I'm going to use for the cargo deck, and run some airline rails down each edge for lashing points.
    So hyped
