  • šŸ˜thanks.

  • Custom Flight build progress... Dry fitted most parts today. Record Ti 10sp/Bora One 50mm clinchers/Cinelli Ram. TBD how this goes on long spins; it is a TT frame after all. Will fit white bar tape (up to hoods only). Anyone got any thoughts on pedals?

  • How rideable is that as a road bike?

  • I've seen a couple of other Flights as road bikes. If it turns out to be painful I'll flip it to a race TT bike. On sitting on it stationary yesterday the geometry felt okay, but lets see after 80km in the hills!

  • A few pistas coming up in classifieds of late. Here is mine, early to mid-80s I think? The frame is in much-loved condition with lots of scratches and flaking paint / stickers etc. I might replace logo stickers at some point but I can't find an exact match anywhere. It is built to be functional, I use it at Herne Hill.

  • Thereā€™s a Pinarello Montello tt bike on Ebay set up for road. Maybe thereā€™s lots of tt frames going unused.

  • I now own a Colnago! Unplanned eBay purchase and mine was the only bid so very cheap (Ā£500 for complete bike). Think itā€™s a Super; fluted main tubing, embossed Colnago on seat stay tops and drive side chain stay. Has quite a nice paint scheme and very clean. Full ultegra group set and changed the stem to a shorter chrome one.

Havenā€™t actually had a chance to ride it yet.

  • I think I am in a dangerous place... Having wanted a Colnago since 1981 (I had a close escape in 88, buying a custom Chas Roberts in stead of a Colnago Super, I've now got the bug again. I'm looking for a modern build (21st century) but am not going to justify a C60/4/8. I missed a good deal (I think) on a Dream Lux and and now scratching the itch quite hard. I like aluminium (The best bike I ever had was a 00's Spesh S-Works) but Dream's seem thin on the ground so am also sniffing about a late C40 if I could find one at a sensible price. What is the going rate and general opinion on Dreams or C40s?

  • I've owned a Dream, Extreme Power and currently have a C40 Lampre. Paid Ā£500 for the Dream in Reflex paint which was immaculate and Ā£480 for the C40. I was lucky on the C40 at this price. Personally I prefer the C40 over the Dream on ride characteristics, Dream is stiffer feeling. Depending on colourway, some of the nicer ones you will pay slightly more.

  • Thanks! The Dream I missed was Ā£300 but needed new headset. You don't seem to get much change from 8-900 on C40s from what I've seen, though I guess you need to factor in the availability of weird sized seatpins.

  • I would say Ā£300-Ā£500 (really good condition) is the average. The seatpost for the C40 can be a nightmare but you could just shim a 27.2 post. I was lucky to find a NOS pinerello 28mm carbon post for Ā£90, colnago ones do go for crazy money. WR Composti still make them but still pretty expensive.

  • I loved the Dream (B-stay version) that I owned. Wonderful balance and handling. Regret selling it but needed to be done at the time.

  • Well I've acquired an Extreme Power - a bit more than I wanted to spend but also a bit less "vintage" and able to accommodate normal parts - 1 1/8" steerer and 31.6 seatpost. I figured if I don't buy one now then I'll never do it. And as someone somewhere else pointed out, Colnago and rationale market costs dare not common bedfellows. Now quite excited....

  • The Extreme Power is a good frame, I did like riding mine but wasn't overly keen on the colourway which resulted in me selling it. I would buy another if the right colourway came up again.

  • That's a rad colourway

  • Well this one is "boring" white and black (TWBK?) but I think I can call it "timeless". I normally got for "lary"! Back int he late 80s I came within 6 feet of buying a classic deep red Super, but was persuaded to have a frame made. And ended up with this...

  • I just couldn't get into it, I like the black version of this one. WX01

  • I saw yours for sale and used it as benchmark for the one I bought! I'd have been OK with that colour, but it is too big for me. I am an annoyingly popular size. Looking forward to getting it put together.

  • Well here we go - First ride due tomorrow! Pretty pleased with the look and feel so far!

  • Lovely frame in great condition, congratulations!

If your physiology allows, I think the front end would look a lot more streamlined with a chopped steerer, a negative stem angle and the bars rotated down about 15/20 degrees.

  • Thanks! It's like that because it wonā€™t :-( I thunk I can stretch to a flatter stem thanks to sneaking a pair of riser drops on.

  • Looks super, you're sure to love it. Here's my C50 with its Record 10spd groupset, all from 2005. The paint job looks better than most six month old bikes you see around today. And it's been ridden hard, in all sorts of filthy weather.

  • Thatā€™s really nice, Campagnoloā€™s best looking group.
