I think age (and success) gives them the permission to come out of the media-training mode so many younger drivers (Max excluded) seem to be stuck in. Was watching the tour, f1 and even some cricket recently and 80% of the interviews I could have done instead of the athlete as they were so bland and full of meaningless platitudes.

I don't think it's just me he's grown on in recent years, i think his popularity has universally increased which means there was obviously something about him that people didn't warm to before.
I do think he deserves a lot of credit for bringing some drivers out of there shell at conferences. He could get Lewis to relax and make a joke or two which is no small feat. My girlfriend and I were actually saying during the last race how much the sport is benefitting from the old guard atm so it'll be a big loss when he goes.
