Buddy can you spare a dime?

  • So many people on the street are asking for money. As well as homeless people (see homelessness thread), the are busking musicians, street acrobats, mime artists, Poetry readers, and sundry other street performers.

Yet often their caps are empty. People just don't carry cash anymore. I rarely do.

So I've started taking a pouch full of the bucket load of shrapnel I've collected over the past decade if I go somewhere people are likely to ask for a few quid. Like West end or South Bank.

I reckon that within a few years coins will be obsolete. I'm unlikely to get a bank to take them already.

    I generally take 20p coins upward. Not the 10p 5p 2p 1p coins.

It's better for the soul than my standard 'sorry no cash' and helps de-clutttering at home

  • I have started to see a lot of performers/buskers with contactless points for payments now as well.

  • Good idea. I will try to do likewise.

  • Yet to see this.
    Hope they'll still accept coins

  • I wonder if something similar to Cash App would take over contactless points.

  • Was asked for £15 tother day, "it's £9 for the shelter a night"
