I probably skip the 4 speed derailleur system and go with a 3 speed external instead.
The 4 speed design isn’t that amazing and you probably get the same range of 3 speed as the 4 speed will not replace the 6 speed system.
Also with the 4 speed derailleur it biggest issue is when you fold and the chain tension will automatically become slack and when you try to fold it in gear one and rotate the crankset backwards the chain will drop and become stuck in gear two. This is more apparent when you try to unfold the bike.
Personally save your money and get a C line or an older Brompton with the old derailleur system.
Thanks for that. It sounds like it’s one to avoid until they get it right. My mate is looking to buy a new one as he can do it in a cycle to work scheme, but being very enthusiastic he’s going to want to upgrade it. What should he buy?
