Android phones, apps and tablets

  • In the last week I've been having issues with my swipe-down notifications menu (android 12). I can swipe down, but it returns/disappears without me able to select anything.
I can't seem to link the issue to an app I've got open. and still occurs when all apps are closed...

  • Tell us the new phone is just to watch YT videos of how to fix the charge port of the 'xel3XL, then being returned.

  • One single experience taught me never to try to fix my own phone.

My S20 had a faulty USB socket and because it was under warranty Samsung sent a technician to my home to fix it.

This chap had been fixing Samsung phones foe four years, had loads of training amd all of the specialist Samsung specific tools...and still ended up breaking two unrelated parts during the disassembly and reassembly. He got it perfect in the end but there was much swearing.

  • The Pixel 6 reader was bad according to one of our site guys.

I'm probably going to get a 6a but I'll wait to see what you hate about it first :)

  • You got a busted screen or something? That's what mine did when it was dropped.

  • i cant tell if my 6 is bad or its the screen protector making it worse

  • New phone day. (From a Pixel 4a 5G)

So far I love the pixel 6a. The size is nice and the build feels very premium.

The fingerprint scanner is working flawlessly so far.

I did the "copy old phone apps and settings using a cable" setup for the first time (going on holiday on Saturday so no time for a full reinstall, which I usually do). It worked well. But it does make my new phone feel like I'm using my old one. Takes away the novelty joy a bit.

    Happy boy here.

  • Also, my 4A never connected to 5G.

This does and it is fast as fuck.

200mbps plus the tensor chip means that I can lufguss at hyper speed.

  • New phone has got a large irregular patch of missing oleophobic coating. Enough to be a bit irritating. Probably 20 percent of screen estate.

Would normally just get an exchange with EE, but I go away for 3 weeks tomorrow. No time.

Spent over an hour talking to EE this morning, trying to resolve.

At one point a "technical advisor" asked me if I had rebooted the phone. I despair!

Now I'm going to have to try to return it in 3 weeks time as "faulty" although they told me that a fault has to be technical in nature.

I feel a battle coming on followed by me attempting to reapply the coating.

Has anyone here reapplied with any degree of success?

  • Less promising. :(

  • although they told me that a fault has to be technical in nature.

surely a manufacturing fault is covered by the warranty?

  • Yeah, I'm not anticipating losing this fight.

  • My Pixel 3a has a cracked screen (fell out of my pocket on Bayswater Road). It's still working as before, but it feels compromised now. Worth trying to get fixed? Or better to just get a new version?

Seems there's some not too expensive unofficial screen replacement services out there, but not sure whether to trust them. I guess the 3a is probably considered outdated now, but has been functioning reliably with no drop off in speed etc.

  • Vodafone and ee stores were doing manufacturer approved screen replacements for Google phones at one point. Worth an ask?
Imagine it would be cheaper to buy a replacement 3a

  • My 6 is terrible. Infuriatingly so

  • My 6 has started hanging. Screen locking up and random unrequested app flipping.

  • My new phone will take up to 1tb in micro SD expansion loveliness. Been a long time since I looked into such things and there wildly varying costs for I assume wildly varying specs and kosherness. What would be the recommended card for more storageness. Would be handy to download the world in Bluey and JoJo and Gran Gran episodes for an upcoming long haul flight with a toddler.

  • Assuming that's kids TV and not grot.

  • Depends on your outlook

  • But, video storage is video storage so if you have some lived experience of downloading vast quantities of grot, I'm all ears (unless that gets you off, in which case, just give me a link to an SD card and be on your way).

  • I've given up using it I wish they'd stuck to the one on the back

  • I've not bought one in ages, but I'd probably go for SanDisk or Samsung or a vaguely trusted brand and as fast as the phone will handle.

  • What would be the recommended card for more storageness.

You don't need the super fast versions for normal HD video playback. Steer clear of brands you haven't heard of. I usually just buy SanDisk, but I think this device has a Samsung card, and Kingston is fine too.

  • Thanks both. Went for SanDisk 256GB as I'll probably fit most of cbeebies on there as it is and prices went up exponentially after that
