I've a mate with a copy of this - https://vannik.co.za/EngMod2T.htm - so will use it once I'm ready to make a proper set. Lots of very detailed measurements required, so I need a motor to play with. Most are straightforward but calculating crankcase compression looks a bit fiddly!

Yea. We had three camera boxes in a row on one stretch of road. I had one letter last week already.

I don't go anywhere without Waze on just to be sure. Haven't had a speeding ticket since I was 18 so 18 years ago (touch wood).

Don't feel too guilty, it took me over a decade to get my arse in gear and get an off-road bike. Totally worth it though.

Probably. I have a phone mount but you can set audio alerts which include police locations and speed traps.

Thanks, might try. I use beeline as a navi but if this can run in the bag and just ping me when it knows of a camera up ahead then that would be good.

Of course I never exceed the speed limits, honest.

Couple miles in real terms. Not blaming anyone but myself. I lost focus (bad history with Faringdon) and just. Urgh.

Anybody done a tarp/bivi setup with their motorbike. May be considering it as an option for a couple days on the TET.

This is the fear, but in real terms I wonder how often it’s happened.

Pucks for the side stand are cheap to buy and even cheaper to fashion.

Got a half-dozen of the damn things. I bought a couple for around £1 each and then given a few at ABR last month. Plus the friend with a 3D printer keeps trying to palm them off to people to push his brand.

Could probably build a small shelter with the stack of them, come to think of it.

Hmm. Measuring out ideal size, I can see how a 1.5m x 2-3m tarp would do in a pinch. That’s the size of those Snugpak Stasha G2’s.

Think I’d sooner sew something up at least 3x3 or more for versatility. Sewing 2x 1.5m width material will give me a central seam to use for loops as well.

I would never use one ever. tipping over, heat from the engine, gross place to be, crappy shelter anyway.

It's not that hard or expensive to set up a complete tarp or even carry a legitimate tent/bivy.

They have acceptable shelter tarps on Amazon and MSR has great poles for the Cost of of beers and dinner.

Just experimenting for the time being. My 2.5kg tent would suffice, but I want to see about roughing it with the bivi bag for the first time in years. A tarp is just an extra, so it’s more about whether a 3x3 is a better size to set up proper.

As far as options for purchase, I have oodles of ripstop material so I’m keen to DIY for now.

I bought an Outdoor Research Molecule Bivy for bike packing and to be honest I didn't really like it at all... I also bought a bundle of cord and a bag of those little cam tightener things like this and I reckon you could fashion something much more pleasant out of them with a bit of tarp, presumably there's some sort of lightweight option available that packs small?

Nice thing about the cord and cam tighteners would be that you could conceivably rig up a hammock too? That's certainly the way I'd go anyway...

Imo you've got to be fucking nuts to sleep under a bike that will totally fuck you up if it falls over. And for what? So you can have a partial wind break that offers no weather protection.

In the distance you can see a picnic table. Why wouldn't you sleep on that with the tarp suspended above you?
