  • Looks like he may be out with a cracked rear frame

  • Ulrich about 15km from Parcours 1.

  • That didn't last long :S

Didn't the last Brompton attempt also fail with mechanical issues? Almost as if they're not the right bike for the job :)

  • yup, but if I can recall right was it a rear hub failure?

the frame crack seems quite a huge failure :( sorry for James!

  • He has completed the TAW and Pan Celtic Race on it so it's not just pure novelty.

  • Big fight for the CP1 summit. The delay on tracker updates make it better still.
The two coming from the North have to go all the way down and then back up..
Gutted for the Brompton. Maybe he can just buy another from the shop.

  • shame followmychallenge is dogshit. can't really work out what is going on or how the leaderboard relates to the map.

anyway, wishing all the riders safety and strength

  • Rumour has it that the position listing should be fixed once they get a time at CP1. For now you can sort on distance to get a rough idea. But being freeroute that doesn't correlate 1 to 1 with ranking position of course.

  • Ian To 100km up on Ulrich...wish that had elevation as well

  • probably why it broke then.

  • Ulrich's tracker has been out for a few hours so that distance is probably wrong.

  • Lol, looks like he got a new bike in 2021 - https://www.jameshouston.com/pcr2021-05-the-bike-work-in-progress/
Talk of getting a steel rear triangle on a Ti bike. Hope this wasn't the cause of it.

  • Anna approached me about running FRRT for TCRno8 and I had a preliminary discussion with FMC but TBH I just ran out of time to do this at the moment- running a control on LEL in two weeks so got 50 volunteers to organise plus 1500 or so riders to feed and look after.

I would be quite happy to ditch it completely and just ride my bike more if someone else would come up with a similar way of estimating DTFs for a free-routed event, so probably will be back for the next one...

  • I'm still annoyed at the mug claiming FKT on LEJOG with a Brompton.

  • Surely they have budget now to pay you well? Honestly they need to invest in mapping. I am surprised they haven't.

  • It's still a Brompton part, no? Anyway, Bromptons >>>

  • Pawel about to hit the parcours along with another fast Pole in Krystian Jakubek

  • yep,
I believe is the same "mechanism" as the TdF/Giro etc... We need the first rider to cross some reference point (e.g. CP1) to estimate the distance from others / GC etc.
But ofc I do not fully like this tracking webpage...

  • cheers dude. good intel.

Yeah, the distances are pretty loose. My mate's was showing 475km for 381km actual. Yesterday, Ulrich's was showing 660km yesterday, for actual of around 540km.

  • It was an alfine 11, I told him to use a Rohloff

  • alfine 11

Those things are made of cheese

  • The tracker replay is smoother than Trackleaders at least. Pawel is going very well and Ian To was pretty strong on his previous year wasn't he? He might figure in the top places. Fiona took an interesting route.

  • Looks like Robin has passed Ulrich on the parcours.

  • The order and times at which the riders arrive at the control point (independent of trackers, recorded by volunteers) is available here.

Just 90 minutes separates the first 6 riders.
