Advice on found Garmin

  • Hoping someone's been in this position before and might have some advice.
Walking the dog locally found a Garmin on the bikepath

Any ideas what to do now? Any ways of tracking down owner?

  • Can you view the starting point for any of the saved/completed rides?

That would get you to their street, then could knock on doors or post a note through letter boxes.

  • I'm assuming they haven't followed this tip like I have?

  • You could upload a ride to strava, see if it attaches you to a group.

  • @farewell -Since I dont live near London that's not really an option
@MTB-Idle - unfortunately they didnt do this :( good idea though (will have to do this for my wahoo)
@boomboom - will it not upload direct to their account if I put it on the wifi? Sorry I've never used bicycle computers and only recently got a wahoo.

Can I change the name of the ride before upload with my contact details so when it uploads automatically to their strava or something it will have the name of the ride with my details?

  • You would need to know their Garmin connect details for it to auto upload.

I would suggest uploading one/some of the older rides manually to strava and ask someone with a subscription to look at segments completed on the same day*. You'll then be able to look at the ride in question and see if it matches with the one/s you have manually uploaded.

*Is this possible, or can you only filter by week/month?)

  • Actually, if you upload an older ride under your account, Strava will assume you've been riding together and will display this accordingly.

  • to be clear: Uploading an older ride would mean to connect it to a computer, go in and grab a ".fit" file from the Activities folder in there somewhere. Then use the "Upload activity" option in Strava.

  • Good point, yes - and this is assuming the cyclist is a Strava user and has doesn't have a private profile...

  • This is very cool, never heard of it. Thanks!

  • Can this be done on a Wahoo?

  • no idea sorry but check out DC Rainmaker's review of Wahoo and I'm sure he will cover it if it is possible
