• Got into my Flickr account and saw these. I do miss the De Rosa. The toe overlap was downright dangerous lol!

Colnago was fun for three seconds but it was too small in the end.

  • Serotta's so good, love the fast back seat stays. Is that a C19?

  • Thanks! I think that would be my forever bike if push came to shove. Yea, C19 on there on that ride. It's moving around hehe.

  • Been under the weather for the last few days and today I took a C-19 test and it was positive. Feeling OK, stuffy nose runny nose, sore throat but that has been it really. More time for tinkering and more time to fettle!

  • Hope you get well soon!

Here's a link to (what I assume are) XR31 rims sold under a different name.

I've ordered from the shop before, they are very friendly and helpful, answer to emails almost immediately!
    Have fun tinkering!

  • Thank you, I'm feeling a lot better already and thanks for that shop link!

They look very similar, but it looks like they have a matte finish? The Kinlins are shiny. I like those matte ones better tbh.

Nice to get another reputable shop as a backup to the big ones.

  • I think my kinlins are matte

  • Def glossy on mine. Matte would look very slick on this build.

  • Need to hack a distance out for the top hole on the seatstay bridge so this aligns better.

Or any other bodges that could work?

  • Stretched out P-clip, shortened and drilled through. Bodge bodge bodge.

  • Fenderline looks OK in the dark at least lol.

Excuse the absolute state that the garage is in.

  • Cleaned up the bodge somewhat.

Specialized buttonhead torx screws, nylon nut and a concave washer from some old brake shoes as a distance.

  • What frame is it?

  • Is it worth some cork or rubber washers in there, because they're metal guards? Might reduce vibrations a bit for noise and fatigue

  • Are they Berthoud, like the stays seems to indicate? Or at least stainless steel? If so, just know that you shouldn't mount them with any stress : if they don't follow the tyre perfectly well, too bad, that's your fender line now. Otherwise, as I've learned through personal experience, they'll crack, most likely at the seatstay bridge.

As @yoshy is saying, leather washers are recommanded between the mudguard and both bridges. Also, put a large washer between the mudguard and the head of the screw at the seatstay bridge. Shape it in a vice before hand so that it follows the shape of the mudguard. Or buy one of these from VO.

  • Will check for stress points and add in washer on the seatstay bridge, I had one but forgot to put it on there again. Will have to buy a scrap of leather and punch out some washers for vibrations.

  • An old CNC-bike.de frame

  • The idea regarding stress is that you should fasten the stays at the position they naturally fall in place when they're unscrewed, i.e. don't push the mudguard in (nor out). If it's actually aluminium, you can re-radius it by pushing the edges inwards or outwards to have a nice fender line. You need specialized tools to do that with stainless steel.

You can also bend the fender (according to J.P. Weigle, no cutting - not sure why tbh -) so that is fits the chainstay bridge, if you're unhappy with the bracket you made.

VO sells leather washers if you don't have the tools to make the washers yourself.

Got a link to that too? Sounds a bit sus.

  • That's the best I got! It's from BQ34.

  • That seems to be a right faff. I'll keep my hackety bracketry a while and if stuff cracks I'll buy some blumels.

  • Have misplaced the bolts to this chainring.
Do the Absolute Black bolts and nuts differ in any way to bog standard singlespeed/1x ones from SRAM or Truativ? No spec on the AbsoluteBlack website sadly.

    Edit*

After some checking on the forum it seems any track bolt will do.

  • no cutting - not sure why tbh

causes a weak point which flexes and then cracks and then fails totally - I found this out for myself

  • I did a thing. A spur of the moment purchase. Any guess what I got?
