I wasn’t sure where to post this but here seems as good a place as any. I was in Milan last month and visited the Triennale design museum. They were exhibiting a one-off frame built with the previously unused Gilco Centenario tubing which appears to have some sort of rifling/ribbing for internal reinforcement.

Interestingly the frame uses internal lugs which gives really clean intersections and has probably the most beautiful stem design I’ve ever seen.

Otherwise I found Milan slightly underwhelming for vintage bike eye candy, probably I wasn’t looking in the right places, but I was very happy to find this.

I guess the seat post is bonded in place as well.
None of the names are familiar, will google later.

De Rosa is just northwest of Milan and they are very friendly. They have lots of bikes used by famous riders and the front is like a regular bike shop with plenty of momentos to buy.

Could also be one of those Campagnolo expander seatpost used on Moser AX Leader frames.

If Lutz Heßlich had a VMB road bike, this would be it. The internal lugs though, remind me a bit of Peugeot's 105 tubing. But it was about time that that look got an upgrade in quality.
Not sure about the tape job (is that bloody fizik?), but they probably gave it some thought.

Nice, but what is going on with the bartape? Is that a "thing"?

It seems crazy that a very light yet highly stressed component, like a brake lever, gets so much drillium attention, and that a big, heavy and low stress seatpost gets hardly any !? So is this just all about aesthetics.

Before y'all jump on my lack of knowledge about mechanics and engineering (which I've been doing for over 40yrs) just google "broken seatpost". I found no examples that can't be explained by defective materials or manufacturing, ie cast alloy.

I had a drilled out seat post back in the 70's. My own black and Decker handiwork. People were a bit scared, thought it was spawn of the devil because if it snapped would have speared me up to the pancreas..... Never did snap.

Plenty of fluted ones around.

Masi started putting holes in Merckx’s bike in 68. Merckx loved that sort of fiddly stuff and it probably had a placebo effect.
Elaborate pantographing was Colnago’s way of individualising his bikes. He was the first I know of to put his own logos on chainrings, stems, seatposts and so on.

If a lever breaks there is still the other to brake, if you break a seat post you have a 2nd anus
