WTD - 40/50mm deep rim brake wheelset

Posted on
  • My rear rim had a crack in it and the front brake track is quite worn, so I'm looking for something to replace them with.
Currently I have alloy rim with carbon faring which I like from a practical standpoint, but also open to carbon. I ride the gravel bike more often these days so not looking to brake the bank.

Also open to a cheap rear to complete the set as well.

Let me know what you have!

  • i have a bitex + light bicycle pair of wheels that are spare. i think they are 50mm deep
    20h/24h
    cx rays
very wide (30mm), tubeless ready. best used with 28mm tyres.
    very decent condition.
comes with one spare rear cxray spoke as one broke at some point.
    260£

  • Very interested, would they work with 23/25?
It's an older frame and the max they will take is 25mm not sure about on a wide rim.

  • i have used 25mm continental 5000s with them, and was happy enough. it leaves the rim more exposed, in case of puncture ? some people will worry about it, some won't. tubeless should prevent a sudden deflation.
my caad didn't take more than 25mm in depth, but width was ok, i was with durace 9000 calipers.

  • Thanks, I'll DM you.

  • If you're not averse to tubulars, I've got these lovely 60mm hifi wheels https://www.lfgss.com/conversations/377656/#comment16605022

  • I am averse to tubulars I'm afraid!

  • I'm also looking for something similar, so anything @cjr doesn't want, send my way!

Less bothered about depth would just like a set of carbon tubs without breaking the bank.

  • I also have a friend looking so keep them coming!
In discussion with Glws but they may be slightly too wide so interested to hear what else is out there.

  • i also have a pair of new carbon Light Bicycle rims 28mm wide, roughly 28mm deep.
    20h 24h i think.
also have pairs of hubs for this, dt240 or bitex

  • I have some 24/24 50mm carbon clinchers you can have for what it cost me to build them (£200), they're old-school width (20.5mm), with DT Swiss Competition spokes and Miche Syntesi hubs, Campagnolo freehub
I would say they've done no more than 300 miles but I've just got some new hubs so am ready for another project. I can throw in my used swissstop yellow pads which is all that has been used on them

  • I've got a pair of Spokesman/Carbonal 38mm rim brake wheels, 20/24h on Novatec hubs with CX-Rays.

27mm wide (max), 25mm at the bead. Race/TT use only, so VGC!

  • What rim is that pls?

  • Chinese carbon clincher sold by https://dymag.com/ on eBay. I think they attempted at the bike wheel market and then sold off their stock when it didn't work out.

  • Actually they're 60mm, I just checked the receipt, apologies for the confusion

  • Yes, they look deeper than 50 mm. Are they set up tubeless?

  • And as you say, the vendor appears to have exited the pushbike market

  • No, they have tubes, no mention of tubeless compatibility so I'd assume not although tyres are a snug fit so with sealing tape they'd probably work

  • no, he went old school :)

  • Not old old skool!
