  • Mordaunt out.

Seems like a lose lose situation now

  • If you slap that much money at it, you can get solar for now & put the rest into salt batteries etc. then in 5 years you know more for the remaining years and where to spend.

Also other countries will be happy to help with info.

Tesla plus solar works for home use, and if you run a heatpump / airco you use up your solar anyway. Install that with outside passive house "tea cosies" installation in research projects in poorer areas and off you go, everyone wins.

Oh wait, who is going to be the monopoly offering "job incentives" when that's going to be 100s of local installers and councils and community groups? Silly me!

  • I think Sunak isn't great but he won't start a trade war, Truss might.

A limbo dancing low bar leadership content...

  • I wonder who the Tory members will pick - the white one or the other one?

  • It will be terrible value, that's certain, I'm not anti nuclear but our governments approach to procurement and coherent energy policy is terrible.

Also Minismere has the most biodiverse 1x1km anywhere in the UK, so let's stick a building site next door for a decade in an environmental collapse and one of the most ecologically depleted countries in the world

Probably be scrapped by autumn, Rishi won't borrow to pay for it and Truss won't have any tax revenue after all her cuts to pay for it

  • Some of you guys have a very grandiose just-met-people-that-arent-from-my-town kind of reality to be honest.

    Speaking as a fat person.
    With mental health issues.
    That aren't hand in hand...
    And not generalizing my opinion.

To be fair, if you go back and read what people said, I think most people were careful to specify some/not all/sometimes etc.

Speaking as somebody with lifelong weight issues and mental health issues that are hand in hand.

My Mum and Dad live in Aldeburgh so I'm in Minsmere on the regular. Sizewell beach and Sizewell belts ( the bit between the facility and Minsmere) is fantastic too. Crawling with snakes and lizards as well as incredible bird life. I bumped into a seal on my morning run last week.

I read some stuff about how much piss taking EDF did with Sizewell B and the local lizard and bat populations a few weeks ago. It made my blood boil. At very least I'd want to see punitive fines for that sort of stuff rather than a few grand here and there.

  • Sunak has no redeeming features whatsoever, yet somehow Truss still manages to be way worse

  • I'm not from the UK but from my understanding of watching British politics from afar, Truss seems to just be...dumb. While Sunak seems like a very cunning and dangerous man with no morals whatsoever. Am I that far off?

  • 'Very cunning' is probably being a bit generous, but yeah you are about right

  • It's a shitty choice we won't be making

  • Apart from the golfists >>>>

  • Whoever wins, I reckon it'll be 6 months before they call a G.E. max.

    Chaos with Ed Miliband.

  • Typically sloppy typo from the Gruaniad, it’s spelt ‘cuntinuity’
    Honestly

  • I don’t get why nuclear is considered green and renewable. What’s the score?

  • Mordaunt out.

Seems like a lose lose situation now

Well it was a lose lose lose situation this morning… So not that much has changed.

  • It's considered green as there are no emissions from energy production but it's not renewable.

  • Always amazes me this is the typical person that ends up in the upper echelons of politics.

If they pulled a random someone off the street they might have a better grasp of reality

  • In certain circles, I reckon it’s because ‘we’ don’t have to properly deal with the consequences and can kick the can (of radioactive waste) down the road for subsequent generations to deal with.

  • Humans can’t be trusted with nuclear.

  • Just imagine if we'd actually properly invested in nuclear tech over the decades instead of allowing it to be a profit machine. Maybe we'd have storage or disposal options by now.

"It's too expensive to dispose of" doesn't wash after sixty years of making more waste and making little effort to solve the problems.

  • I mean look at Sizewell A. It stopped producing power in 2006 but the decommissioning fund is too small so the taxpayer is stumping some of it.

It's 2098 before they've finished cleaning it up. It will be at least 2150 before B is cleaned up. And here we are making the same mistake again with C.

If I was the planning committee I would have agreed to C on the condition that they build it where A is. Clean up your mess, you wallies.

  • Rather than the cost isnt the main issue literally where do you put it?

  • Shoot it into space
