I probably should have indicated sarcasm for the first line.

Basically, telling an overweight person to try harder can sometimes be a bit like telling a depressed person to cheer up.

• #75904
They can really bring the vibe down tho.

It was in reply to Boris Johnson having all the resources if he wants to drop weight.
But if he doesn't he doesn't, somebody's weight is between them and their GP and doesn't tell you anything about their character as you say.
-
• #75906
Correct, it doesn't matter whether Boris is a fat lying self-serving hypocrite or a thin one, it's the character that matters not the body shape.
If he were to become unwell due to his weight, or lack thereof, I for one wouldn't mourn.

Apologies on muddling up reference person.

Why is it between them and their GP? What's it got to do with their doctor?

What has a complex physical and (quite often) mental health medical condition that can lead to serious illness and death have to do with their doctor?

Obesity can lead to high blood pressure, diabetes and joint problems.
Somebody I know lost weight to help her joints, when I was 4 kg heavier my blood pressure was also higher so I decided to drop some weight. (Not fun no I like food) But 140/90 Vs 120/70 BP cha...
An ex colleague became pre diabetic so she started running and changed her diet.
But some people can carry more weight and are fine, hence it's up to the GP to assess.
Even so, it's not easy and not all diet approaches work for all people, you need to learn about food, cooking, make time, get your family on board etc.
I am not going to judge people of they find it hard, I think GPs can now prescribe fruits & veg and free exercise classes in some areas.
I think a lot of people just go judge overweight people are unhealthy, well if you are not their GP you don't know.

*heads to wanstead flats on firemarshall duties
there was a blaze there last summer and a few years before that too
there must be a few arsonist getting their matches lit before the rains come
There was a fire there on Thursday or Friday night it looked like as there was a section of burnt grass immediately north of Cranmer Rd, pretty close to the houses actually.

Sizewell C approved.
Even if you are pro-nuclear it is hard to see how its a good deal for the UK taxpayer to pay the French state £20bn (partly through rises in energy bills for a decade) in return for a nuclear power station that will generate expensive power with no price caps for the consumer.
And then there are the concerns about the damage to the environment on the rather special site, and the fact that very few nuclear energy experts seem to think that the decomissioning costs of the project have satisfactorily been taken into account. This has BIG RED WARNING SIGNALS all over it.

Some of you guys have a very grandiose just-met-people-that-arent-from-my-town kind of reality to be honest.
Speaking as a fat person.
With mental health issues.
That aren't hand in hand...
And not generalizing my opinion. -
• #75918
If it's not a breeder reactor it's even more unwise as nuclear fuel isn't renewable and there isn't that much of it either.
That £ could have bought a grid upgrade and lots of solar panels or insulation..

Another Bojo project solely to collect bribes and enrich his mates.
"Separately, the report said, the Chinese-born wife of a junior Home Office minister appeared to have played a role in supporting the bid, while at the same time donating considerable sums to the Conservative party. The programme said Xuelin Bates, a property developer who married the Tory peer Lord (Michael) Bates in 2012, had held talks in 2008 with Xu Weiping, and made at least one trip to China paid for by the Chinese company. She also formed a company called London China ABP, but dissolved it before it was due to file accounts, and has donated more than £206,000 to the Conservatives since 2010. Lady Bates said any donations she made were purely personal and London China ABP had no connection to the Chinese firm, which also denied any knowledge or involvement in her actions."

enrich his mates
He can't even do that very successfully:
“I used to be a billionaire,” ABP founder Xu Weiping told the Guardian in 2020, “but not any more. The virus is only one of the reasons. Brexit has caused a lot of my UK assets to depreciate.” Documents filed with Companies House in December last year show ABP made a loss of £13.2m in 2020, more than 10 times as much as in 2019, and had financial liabilities of £14.5m.

Oh don't worry, the MP's wife was still able to make a £200k donation to the Cons so they must have got enough out of the investors. The only part missing is taking some money out the treasury to prop up a related company a friend owns.

Oh.
But the technology for storing wind energy isn't there!
Just spend some invest some R&D money in the tech and boost British industry then!
^ sorry, I realise that we're basically making the same point.
