  • Challenge Getaways

Those sidewalls "look" quite thin. Presumably that's where they get any measured speed benefits from. Same reason I picked GK SK+ for Badlands - very supple sidewalls 'should' equate to faster rolling but still got the full punc protection for all the rocks.

Teravail seem to do a lot of sponsorship so I'd be wary of those on sponsored rider bikes.

GBDuro has a lot of road so the tighter tread options look like a sensible choice. I'd still opt for something with extra protection because speed benefit or not, no one wants to be pissing about with cuts mid-race

The missus had an older model G-One Ultrabite 2" or something on her front wheel. No issues.

Better riders (better line choice, lighter on the bike) can be faster with shitter tyres so if you're technically a good rider you are likely able to get away with lighter, faster tyres. If you're a fat fuck, that REALLY REALLY hates stopping for flats you'll likely choose more durable.

I've been thinking about GBDuro for a while and for me I'd definitely go bigger than those Getaways but that's for reasons above.

Also, they sound like they're GKs with the super supple sidewalls - that's gonna be a bitch to seat if you do lose the tubeless lock on 'em at any point.

  • Good points. I'm not particularly interested in the Cannonball, so don't worry about that.

I'm totally in agreement on the puncture protection, I'd rather get something with good protection, I tend to flat often. Which is what drove me to the getaways initially, since their puncture protection is the best of any knobbly tire in BRR. Their sidewall indeed seems to be their weak point, but bizarrely still more resistant than Cinturato M, Cannonball Light or Riddler Light.

If they offered Getaways in 45 I'd be on it I think. My bike won't comfortably clear anything larger. Just driving myself insane with comparing everything on the market so i don't have to ride these damn Riddlers.

  • I would've expected Cnturato to be pretty high on the sidewall list. I've certainly not had issues with mine. But tests are tests and I'm just an anecdote. They definitely seem solid/thick, ie. the tyres stand up by themselves compared to the GKs which would just flop into a pile.

I need to have a look at BRR for knobbies. To be honest I've so many spare tyres I don't want to see more info until I've used what I've got :)

Are you going to be racing DBDuro or riding the route as a tour? Can you afford to test a few tyres over a few weeks/months? Ok, you have a month if you're racing.

How much clearance do you have with 45mm? It's been pretty dry but if we get storms before the race, I'd expect more mud and Scotland's always fucking wet no matter
