Yeah, compared to a 40mm trad round case a 40mm 44GS is going to look smaller, the dial will probably be smaller.
I just know when I've tried on 40mm 44GS models in the past they've all felt just a bit large for my personal preference. The SBGA375 is an example, lovely looking watch but felt a smidge big on my wrist.
Yeah, it's a matter of taste of course, the 44GS was always a relatively large watch even when it was new, and being hand wound at least it's only 10.5mm thick which is great. 38 would probably be my sweet spot for a 44GS though.
