Fully on board with this idea. Oversized tubing & shallow-depth rims looks fab.

I've been thinking about the remainder of the build... leaning towards the following at present:
Fork - Columbus Futura SL
Handlebar - Deda Elementi Superleggera
Stem - Kalloy Uno w/ Ti bolts
Seatpost - KCNC Ti Pro Lite
Crankset - Rotor 3D+
Chainring - Undecided but probably not going to go for FibreLyte again, they were splendid but unnecessary.
Derailleur - SRAM Red 22 Mechanical
Front Mech - ??? 1x?
Brifters - SRAM Red 22 Mechanical
Brakes - Undecided but thinking Dura Ace 9100... would like CaneCreek EEbrakes but obviously $$$... open to suggestion. -

1x, and strip out the mechanism in the left shifter for weight weenie cred.
You could also go TRP brakes or Planet X / fouriers CNC
-
• #230
Stripped out shifter sounds like an excellent source of HH points 😅
I wouldn't rule out TRP again and I'm not familiar with the Fouriers ones but I'll check them out!
Edit: Planet-X no longer do them but they look superb and are available elsewhere...

AliExpress EE knockoffs...
-
• #232
The Fouriers? They're not actually cheap cheap?
-
• #233
1x ?! Guess you aren’t taking this into the hills!?
-
• #234
The 1x bit is up for debate alright... I need to have a look at the actual gearing and compare it to my current 2x10 and see where I'd end up on 1x11 and if it would still work out?
-
• #235
I'm glad mavic ust has been thoroughly shelved - that wobbly brake track is a crime.
Go 1x imo. 50*28 would be a tiny ss gear... -
• #236
Not the Fouriers. I mean there are actual ee fakes. I got one on my caad track and it works fine
-
• #237
He’s barely going to ride it, let alone up any hills…
-
• #238
I had some pink ones somewhere, and currently have some black ones on my Scott Addict WW bike.
-
• #239
Oh these sound right up my alley! Are they actually light? Any pics or links?
-
• #240
I should resent this comment... should...
-
• #241
The one I bought has been removed now but you can find them by searching g4 brake on AliExpress. They're still like 60 quid each but it has been decent. Doesn't come with pads

1x for the points.
There’s only 1 FD out of the 15 bikes in our household (Liz’s road bike, she only has it to annoy me)
A pic of my unloved Standert

By the time you’ve finished this build, you’ll be wanting a carbon bike that looks like an aluminium bike!
-
• #244
See above as to why you don’t want a Standert. They are fucking awesome, but I have one!
-
• #245
There's every possibility this will be the case... * insert sage quote about the journey not the destination *
-
• #246
These look so decent! Might chance a set and see how they are but they look impressive and they're not silly cheap.
-
• #247
I think you just need an old Caad to be honest.
-
• #248
Erhm.
1x with ratio 12 speed upgrade, on 10 speed force or red shifters -
• #249
Yes. Hadn't seen that Ratio kit until now but I must have it.
What's the perceived wisdom on Red vs Force?

I switched from 1x in Dublin. Liked being able to pedal in the preferred cadence AND go up hills. Now I’m in pan flat (ish) Ontario it would probably be a goer again.
Mmm, these are both very lovely! It's a shame Stelbel don't do an aluminium frame, did they ever do aluminium in the past?
Here's a bespoke Frank The Welder to start the page.
