is this still going and honestly how bad is the rust? it's a bit hard to gauge

Hello! Still going. Was planning on moving it to ebay so right in time.
The rust is just a tin surface layer, it didn't actually affect the steel just paint in places.

Someone with a bit of experience could clean an repaint that bit with no problem.
