Fairlight cycles - any opinions?

  • Ah - I wondered from their Instagram post if something along those lines might have happened, that is quite annoying

  • Sadly I was after the delightful blue and I’m not even in the UK otherwise I might have put some effort into swapsies.

@sidewinder I was even looking at what local shops had again (hmm a wolverine or all city…) but decided there was a reason I had chosen the Faran.

  • Might be worth being a bit stroppy/asking if you can be on blue waiting list for anyone dropping out? I suspect it was someone wishing to switch to the new colour?

Also felt aggrieved in that it was the day I had finally decided on what different colour (plus hope bling) I was now going to be 'happy' with they informed me I could have my initial option. God know what it cost my employer in my time spent deliberating colour.

  • I know they can't please all but I don't get this moss colour. Would have been nice to see the desert come over from the Holt to Faran.

  • Has anyone with a Faran tried fitting a 15 x100 front hub using one of those sleeves to get it down to 12 x100? Or is it a no go.

  • I have tried to do so, but the 15mm hub caps are too big to fit inside the Cempa fork.

The fork is somewhat "shaped" around the 12mm end caps, bigger caps won't fit

  • Appreciate the intel. Cempa is the carbon fork though, no?

  • Surely if you order something and it's not as described, you can just cancel the order?

  • Uups Sorry! Misread your post. Yes it's the carbon one. The best way is to check out of the inner legs and see if there's a slot where the caps are supposed to go

  • I absolutely detest my Secan. Normally I'd just blame myself, but I'm so confused by everyone loving theirs, that I think I must've just done something wrong along the way.

  • Any reason why?

  • Shrink it a bit and sell it to me?

  • it wont be better than the checkpoint

  • i mean its a heavy steel bike

  • You are actually right. Undibs

  • It's a 58R, from memory. That may be the issue + my lack of flexibility. I'd expected it to be a 56 or maybe a 58T but every time I did the size suggester thing on their site it came up with this. It does feel a little long, but doesn't really look it when I'm riding it (I'm 6ft). Aside from that though, I want to love it but it leaves me feeling cold. You know when you ride a bike the first time and it urges you on and feels like it's responding to you alone? Yeah, well sort of the opposite of that. Right from the off I felt miserable when riding it. Like I said, I imagine it's my fault - but I still wish I knew what I was missing.

  • I can see what you mean. I know coming from road bike or 23mm fixie my secan feels kind of sluggish and boring. It's got 38mm tyres and it's not a light bike. However once I get it moving I forget that pretty quick. It's super "stable" and irons out a lot of road shit that frankly really gets on my tits on skinny tyres. But quick accelerations (urging you on) yeah I don't really get that. Off road I think it's a different story and for me the big rides I've done on all the surfaces make up for those negatives. I've used it purely as a road bike in winter but it isn't a road bike or a cross bike.

Hard not to sound like a golf club wanker writing this :)

  • I'd highly suggest you email them, they will want to hear from you and to help resolve it.

  • Was interested to see the pricing of 105 Di2 but what have they done with the FD here?

  • Just bad setup for the photo?

  • In big ring but shifter been pushed static and trying to move into little ring.

  • Black.

And thank you @pastry_bot. And I will do, @skinny

  • I got a second hand strael 56t - from their size guide I should have been 58r which seemed huge, if I put myself down by a cm height wise I got 56t so assumed it would be fine. But also found the sizing tool surprising - I’m just about 183cm.

Conversely to you, I really love the bike. I sold my ‘nice’ rim brake roadie and am keeping just this. Has 32s and panniers atm for a week in Netherlands soon (terrible photo).
