I play, or did, too. Got a mapex M 4-piece, 5000 hardware, and a mix of cymbals. Due to where im living now, the kit is stashed at my grandparents in favour of an acoustic guitar here. Must get back on it though.
Watching these vids has got me feeling pretty inspired.

Gus, that video is amazing. what's the tune? Sick.
And Dirkbang, sounds like we're on the same page, drum wise. John Stanier been a big influence, man can he hold down a solid beat?!
So...i wanna see vids of people on here playing, anyone got anything?

just a heads up for the heads - bernard purdie is in town, went to see him last night.
Jazz cafe. Live his beats rock the fuck out and are so tuff they make you nearly cry with pleasure.
Great night of blue note jazz but purdie takes it into a different realm.
I presume everyone knows the youtube clips...

YouTube - The Jesus & Mary Chain - Just Like Honey & Inside Me (Live)
i like the complex setup.

there was more than enough room in that studio for those young people to dance unhindered by the proximity of others..

my people! My very very current and active people!
gosh, next you'll be telling me there's a thread for people who ride fixed wheel or single speed bikes. Is there one of those, too? I'm so lonely.

Never noticed this thread before! I've had a variety of kits in my time - at one point (when I obviously had far too much disposable income) I had a big cheap 2-kick, 6-tom stupid metal band Frankenstein-ed together set, which I sold on when I moved out of my parent's place.
Then realised that you can get better results with less drums if they're better quality, so upgraded to a Tama set, the one above the Rockstar, I forget the name.
After that I moved into a flat, so had to go for electronic drums - had a nice Roland setup, which eventually got moved on too when it began gathering dust.Don't have anything now unfortunately - I do miss the occasional play though, just not enough to have my own stuff again.

How have I not found this thread before?

Just seen your pedal question...
Sonor DP4000 looks decent for not mental money. Otherwise I'd just buy whatever used Tama or DW you find locally in budget... -
• #91
Oh I see now, I misunderstood but sure we're all here now and that's the main thing!
I too struggle enough with one pedal but I struggle enthusiastically and that's what counts right?
Anyway... post some more kits to ogle please so we can start nerding about drum gear!

Same poster behind the kit though.

I'm a little envious of the electric kit situation... I currently have nowhere to keep mine and it's packed up in cases at the moment... acoustic drums are best but only if you can actually use them.

No need to @reply me, I'm here all week.
I still spend more time on my practice pads than on the kit - partly because my increasingly demented upstairs neighbour claims to be able to hear the electric kit even with headphones on - because I only started drumming again 3 years ago and my stick control still needs a load of work. -

Also it turns out I don't have the stamina or arm strength I had 30 years ago.

I do think Youtube has revolutionised learning an instrument though, there are a lot of genuinely useful tutorials on there.

Thanks for the tag!
@Nahguavkire I've not seen that Sonor, I'll add it to the list. Anyone have any experience of the Tama Speed Cobra, DW 2000 or the Pearl Eliminator? Or anything else sub £300 that's worth checking out? Happy to go second hand. It's to replace a 15ish year old Iron Cobra that even with a fresh (DIY service) is just playing like shit and starting to fall apart. I can't wait to drop a couple of hundred quid to find out I'm just shit with a double pedal and my Iron Cobra was fine all along. -

I currently have nowhere to keep mine
I got rid of furniture to fit mine in. No regrets. Who needs chairs and tables and family members when you could be making a horrible racket instead?
Funny thing is that I don't really like how compact the Alesis is, and I feel like I want one of those Roland VAD kits instead. OTOH I'm new enough at this that any decision I make at this point will be a rash one so I'm just going to sit with these covetous feelings for a while and see how they develop.
I wouldn't dare to put an acoustic set in this flat, I'm paranoid enough about the e-kit. Neighbours haven't complained yet so it can't be too bad. Or maybe it is, and they're keeping a noise nuisance log that they plan to spring on me unexpectedly! Who knows!
I met Mangini in Boston, he teaches at Berklee College of Music, really nice guy
