Ah interesting, it's on my watch (Coros) but was interested to see if there was crossover to cycling. I see all the same Critical Power references etc and same principles around polarized, running below LT1 etc.
I presumed that as my watch correlates really closely to Stryde there may be some out there using either/both to structure training and recovery..

You could maybe use it as a proxy for efficiency. I'd guess if you were to jump up and down on the spot it would show a fairly high power figure (but obviously you'd be going nowhere).
Then if you can either reduce RPE for the same power, or increase pace for same power etc.Maybe unfair for me to say it's not useful, but rather that it's not as pure a figure as you get on a bike, since it's being made up from things like ground contact time, presumably various accelerometer figures. Not sure if it uses weight though, so I don't think there's a w/kg equivalent for example.
I think if you can find a way to make it useful then it can be useful, but it's still very much a new stat

Saunders Mountain Marathon this weekend. Weather forecast looks a bit breezy to be on the Lake District Fells all weekend. Am attempting a score course with a new partner so hoping to enjoy it and have a good time.

^ Enjoy.
Missed my first 5km of the year due to Covid. 15 dead won it, I wasn't going to be within 4 mins of that anyway.
Looking at ultralight running backpacks instead. Nice but a bit pricey.

I've been smashed by the COVID today so not going. Gutted

Sorry to hear. Hope it isn't too grim and you feel better soon.

The toe socks and wetsuit lube worked wonders. Run was fun, but tough. The SW coastal path is not easy terrain. The sea dips more of a distraction in the end

and belted round my 7.5km route this morning at 4.44 per km - 18 secs per km faster than I’ve ever managed before.
There’s definitely a placebo effect ie I’ve got fast shoes so I will run fast and my HR was up slightly but the difference in feel is night and day.
What pair of shoes did you get?

How're you getting on with covid? Hope all ok.

First ever 10k this weekend, any pacing tips?
Was feeling good till I looked at the McMillan run app equivalents… now realise that perhaps a 2:49 marathon isn’t just a case of putting in the work, some greater level of talent than I possess might be required..

What distance do you normally run?

Don't go hell for leather at first, try and go faster in the second half.
where is it? have you got any recent 5k times?
-

ticking over. no serious symptoms but generally tired and aching so haven't tried to run since testing positive.
-
• #27690
Sounds reasonable, I'm taking a couple extra weeks off to ensure fully recovered before I start back.

Half marathon/marathon or triathlons

Dorney lake, no recent 5k times, feel confidently like im in sub 38 shape, target is low 36, think I’ll aim to set off at 37 min pace and see where I am at 5k!

you're almost identical pace to me. I've definitely found going out sensibly helped.
My recent two were Vitality 10k - first km in 3:50 (which felt like holding back), then sped up through the race to 3:30 for the last few km (helped by a bit more downhill in the 2nd half). probably sandbagged too much in the first half as I ended up with 18:40 for the first half and 17:55 for the second.Folkestone better paced. Started out a little bit quick as it was a small field and I got caught up with the lead runners before letting them go and worrying about my own race. started out 3:35 (actually morelike 3:25 before letting them go after a couple of mins) then dropped to 3:45 before then working back to 3:35 and dropping off a bit to 3:40s. certainly better paced overall and splits I think were almost even.
But yeah - start slower than you think you should, certainly for the first km until HR settles

Managed pretty even pacing despite it being a bit of a lonely/windy run, confusing results as gun time was 36:58, chip time 36:04 and watch time 36:40 but was somewhere in there! Had a mate with me for 2k but he began to drop off and then he pulled out at 5k..
So a bit off sub 2:50 equivalent pace but 12 weeks of training to get me there and a half marathon at the end of august to have another check in…

Anyone got a chest HR they are willing to sell (and post)
Ideally will work with Garmin watch but also direct to iPhone via Bluetooth if I don’t wear my garmin (no idea if this is standard functionality)

Amazon have Garmin Dual HRMs for just under £40 in their Prime promotion

Thanks for the links .. I was hoping to go second-hand .. not because I’m desperate for other peoples sweat against my chest but out of a misplaced attempt to avoid more landfill since I’ve lost the 2 previous HR straps I owned.
Garmins on Amazon probably too good a deal to ignore though so third time lucky.
I don’t think there is one. It’s not really running with power, since every manufacturer has their own algorithm for making up a ‘power’ figure.
I’ve not met anyone that knows what to do with the number (or even uses it). Totally unlike cycling in that respect
