  • I agree. It makes me feel very uneasy.

    Its culturally very important to people though. In Brazil, Argentina and some other South American countries the midwife will do it for you before your baby goes home.

    Edit: Wow, had no idea how widespread it was. Common to pierce ears of newborns and infants in India and loads of West African countries too. Mind boggling.

    Im hesitant to piss-on, nay-say or otherwise be dismissive of cultural traditions (be they religious or otherwise), but I think I my view of this is similar to my view of infant circumcision (both male and female), which is that it can fuck right off until the person is old enough to make the decision them self
