But the shitshows are at least in part caused by locals leaving... that said, having been through Frankfurt (my local hub) a few times recently, I'm not enthusiastic about flying anything other than direct any time soon as that airport is also a massive ballache (average delay for me, 3 hours on trips that should have been 4-5 hours long).

I took a connecting flight in 2004. It was shit and I'm not yet regretting my decision to only go to places which are a single hop from London.

I’m in transit there next week, 2hr layover and 1hr on the way back. Bit worried about missing connections.

I get your point, but saying that no-one's coming here because of airport shitshows is a bit like the old Woody Allen joke that "no-one goes there anymore, it's too crowded".
