  • Send them back. Not worth the risk

  • I would say mostly true.

  • I've got a Maxxis tyre that's leaking along a small section of the bead. I've inspected the tyre pretty thoroughly and can't find any holes or rips, there's just a slight bobble in the bead where the leak is occurring so I suppose this is the cause. Is there anything I can do to get it to seal properly?

  • Is the rim still straight?

  • It looks straight, but does seem to be exhibiting the same kind of symptoms that a dinged rim would present.

I've left in horizontal for 24 hours and it seems to have sealed up now, we'll see if it stays that way when riding.

  • If it does leak again…
Mark where the leak is, unseat the tyre and move it round a couple of inches. If the leak moves it’s the tyre if it stays the same it’s the rim. Moving it may just fix it.

  • But logos and valve holes will be misaligned.

    Straight to anti

  • Yeh. Horrid thought.

  • I’ve been disappointed with the new Silca sealant. It’s dried up very quickly and carbon pieces clumped up in a few days.

What’s the best value sealant at the moment. Intrigued by OKO. Anyone tried it?

  • I use Stans because it seems the most common, easiest to find. I travel with bike so this is more important than cost in my mind. ie. I don't want to have to empty sealant out because I can't find it locally.

  • Yep used OKO.
Pretty impressed. I set up my road tyres like 6 months ago, rode like 7000km on them and was thinking to myself the sealant must have dried up by now, I really should change it before I puncture but then got one on my way home from work, sealed up in one rotation of the wheel and stayed inflated at like 60psi

  • I've used it on my MTB, seems fine, the nutrack stuff is exactly the same, I saw a wheel that had used the peatys stuff yesterday and it goes the same purple colour when spilt on the tyre but has bits in, dunno if it's actually the same though.

  • This is a good point, thanks. But going to give OKO a go as I have no big trips planned.

  • Did you get the dirt bike version?

  • This sounds like, brilliant ;)

  • Don't think so. It's in a non descript 5 litre container with no label though so I can't be sure...

  • I’ve been using this for around 4 years. Absolutely no complaints. Seals quickly (unless it’s a pinch :o) and effectively. It comes in a 1 litre bottle which I like as I have a couple of smaller containers I decant into to carry on the bike.

  • Been using Stans and MucOff. Both seem okay as long as I remember to change the sealant before it rattles.

  • Guess which task I am not going to finish.

  • Reading the newspaper?

  • Also fuck gaffa tape as rimtape.
There would be no scratching at glue with yellow tesa.

  • How long does stans race last in your tyre ?
