Finale has a definite "Bill and Ted" musical moment
Series 2 had loads of Aliens references and a "stay frosty"
-
• #7804
I missed the Bill & Ted moment!
Pretty sure there was an Alien 3 bit in the finale, as well as an unexpected Alien Resurrection nod to Winona Ryder in episode 8.

We've finished the first 7 episodes, dunno about anyone else but the bits with Eleven have put me on edge quite a bit...
Seeing the runtime for the final episode as well, fuck me it's gonna be a slog

Stranger Things isn't doing it for me

I watched the penultimate episode last night.
90 mins of nothing. We're basically where we were at the beginning of the episode.
I'm not looking forward to the 2h 30m finale.
-

I'm watching it right now, the penultimate one.
You just know everything that's gonna happen, and as you say, a bit uneventful
-
• #7811
I'm taking it that this is for quite a younger audience than myself, very cheesy

2h 30m finale
Yeah forget that, I'll get the short n sweet version from you in the TV spoilers thread?
-
• #7813
Sure. When I get to it.

Finished Stranger things the other day - felt like the whole season was just a filler and set up for S5, unlike the other seasons where it hinted at more to come leaving it sort of open for another series if they wanted this is pretty explicit there will be another season (/feature length film?). Kinda disappointing.
Spoiler, click to read
And the various "teams" plans to distract the hive mind didn't really seem to serve any purpose apart from put characters in peril and keep them in the story a bit longer. There was nothing to suggest Vecna was affected by the Soviet flame thrower, or bat-fighting in any way. Felt like Eddy dies for nothing. -

Wasn't this always billed as Vol 1? We finished last night, and whilst I've found the lengths a bit tiresome it's been enjoyable enough.
More importantly, when the fuck is Only Connect back on TV

Wasn't this always billed as Vol 1?
Ah I missed that part. I was expecting everything to be wrapped up and started the season thinking surely this is the last one now otherwise they'll milk it too much and ruin it.
Did still enjoy it though, especially the Metallica scene.
-
• #7817
I thought this was the end and that the first part of this season was Vol 1.
Not reading spoilers but assume that means that things aren't wrapped up in these two 'final' episodes?
That's annoying.

Yeah I'm done with it all, off to find a good anime to watch or something.

Better Call Saul continues today..

Stranger Things 4 is just an overwhelming compilation of 1980's hits spliced together like some Jive Bunny medley.
Almost every "Easter Egg" article or video is able to tease out something the others have missed and you still go "OK , yeah" to all of them.New York Times misses "The Thing" (monster+ snow+ flamethrower") "Star Wars" (Vader+ Stormtroopers boarding Leias ship = soldiers attacking NINA lab) etc.
https://www.nytimes.com/2022/05/31/arts/television/stranger-things-4-references-easter-eggs.html
I'm amazed they managed to try an put a plot over them.

Finally got round to catching up with Better Call Saul yesterday. Been unwell so binged the season so far. It's hecking good.
-
• #7824
Yeah I finished it the other day.
It’s so beautifully shot in places, especially the close up/montage scenes that often start the show.
I’ve found some seasons painfully slow (Chuck’s dementia for one) but this one so far is a brilliant return to form

It's been agonising at times, but it's never stopped being entertaining to me. So beautifully shot, immense character development, thick intertwining stories, I love it.
“Quarter and search by twos. Hicks, take the upper level”
So Stranger Things is straight-up lifting whole lines from the 80s films it references, now. Made me grin though.
