Fully agreed, stainless versions are pretty easy to find too.

That looks great, I‘d like to have one too for my basement

I didn’t say that it did. I was just pointing out it’s a waste of money to use for a worktop (more so considering it looks minging compared to birch).
Marine ply is used in marine applications due to a combination of the glues, lack of voids and the species of wood (traditionally mahogany) as the oils/resins react with saltwater and provide protection.
BS1088 addresses this somewhat but is pretty vague, so despite it all being called marine ply, not all of it is ideal for building a wooden hulled boat.

That’s quite interesting, and birch ply does look nice. About £200+ a sheet at the moment looks like.
Got a sheet of marine ply for £71 including vat cut and delivered which seemed like a great price.
I will seal it with something, though don’t think I can be bothered to laminate the top. -

Cleaning oil based paint off brushes... Been googling this (fun Friday night) and... Brush as much as you can out, then white spirit. Got some white spirit now in an old tin I need to take to the recycling centre
Didn't realise white spirit was such a faff -
• #36907
I'm sure that's the right thing to do. I give them a wipe with some wonder wipes, agitate them in some white spirit then rinse that white spirit out with water and then wash with washing up liquid and rinse again, sometimes it takes 2 dips in the white spirit sometimes a clean white spirit. If you leave it in an open container it evaporates to a solid over time.

Cheers. So you just bin/recycle that container it's in after its evaporated? Saves a trip to the tip
Someone was raving about paint brush combs too when looking -
• #36909
I have a paint brush comb but it's not really become integrated in my cleaning routine. I think it can help if you have overloaded the brush and pushed paint deep towards the ferrule. I don't do much of that anymore.
Yes, I actually have a stack of the cheap plastic paint mixing cups with different stages of drying going on. Sometimes I can re-use the plastic cup to save waste.

Or if you leave it in a bottle it'll separate and you can reuse it again. Changes colour but still does the same thing! I do it all the time.

Oh yeah, thought that was the company I ordered from last time. Err. Better check the chaos that is my filing system!

I got this on a no VAT special offer https://www.selcobw.com/general-purpose-plywood-2440-x-1220mm?thickness=59008
There were something like 5 cuts free.
The size is a bit of a fucker isn't it? As you're just outside of any way to get two pieces from one sheet. Then 25mm gets pricier. I wonder if just doubling up front and back with 15cm strips front and back from the offcuts rather than doubling the whole thing up would be sufficient. That's why I asked what sort of use it'd see.
Have you had a look on that discount kitchen worktop site that lots of people on here use?

Is there a forum approved multipurpose paint brush multipack?
Not shit, but not pricey. Ideally at the smaller size range.
Use would be for a range of things, from painting little wood projects through to doing the edges on walls.

Went to see that DeWalt router at Toucan Tools, they don’t have a showroom anymore! Managed to convince the guy at the trade counter to let me fondle it under the covid screen. Felt nice, I took it home.
-
• #36915
Yeah, it’s just a bit too long to use one sheet and double up. I got a sheet of 18mm marine ply in the end at a good price, and I think I will be doubling up with 10cm off cut strips on all sides.
Use a router to trim it up, and add a small round over or chamfer. What’s the recommended finish to waterproof it?

This set looks like good value.

Main thing to watch with brushes if you get too cheap the bristles fall out while you're painting.

Good name for the job.

Smith’s Clear Penetrating Epoxy Sealer or similar will actually waterproof it, then ‘hot coat’ before the exposy is fully cured with a single part UV resistant varnish.

Harris stuff (available at screwfix and other places) has seemed fine to me so far.

Cheers guys.
OH was complaining that there weren't any brushes left, so just wanted some spares/extra. In fairness we've had a few projects that have fucked brushes, so that may explain where they've all gone.

Chopped out and replaced a bit of the trellis thing out front. Just needs some kind of epoxy putty stuff and a lick of paint.

Excellent, great job, can hardly tell that it's been repaired.

Great skills. Your neighbours will be asking.

Nice work! Which putty stuff are you going for? I need to make a small repair to our gate now it's almost ready for repainting...

Gonna give milliput a go. Never used it, turns out it’s made in Wales.
I got a free standing catering sink for the utility room, quite a lot cheaper than the butler sink option.
It’s pretty massive, 62cmx45cmx28cm basin.
Also, considering I am in Southampton, boat building central, so I have no idea Why I hadn’t checked out the various local timber merchants.
Excellent quality marine ply at close to the same price as normal ply, free cutting and free delivery!
