Does that include out of home cover? I have my bikes on H&C cover but when i wanted cover for commuting etc i had to get a pedal cover bolt on so decided on Laka instead for my two commuting bikes.

I find Yellow Jersey consistently undercut Lakka for my purposes, that and I'd rather not know about directly funding the Hillingdon Heros and the muppets commuting in London on their SWorks that I see every day.
My code if anyone wants ££ Referal Code: YJ016880

Does that include out of home cover?
Yep, plus all bikes under £1000 dont need to be listed
-
• #1105
Wow that's really good, do they need to be locked if they're in your mancave?
-
• #1106
I find YJ is great with a multi-bike discount and renewals. For the first year it's slightly more spendy though.

Does home insurance cover you if a car hits you and totals the bike?
-
• #1109
Typically if they cover the bike, yes.
They'd often then take up the recovery from that TP.

How do you value an 'older' bike for insurance purposes?
I have a Look 695, 2011 frame, full R8000 rim groups, cheap is hand build carbon wheels.
Not really something you could new these days, so how do I cost it up?I looked at a Trek bikes with 105 groupset for about 3K but it weighs 9kg and mine is closer to 7kg

Would depend on policy, some new for old, some new for old or some market value.
-
• #1113
I just priced mine off current replacement value.
Obviously gets tricky where the thing is antique or some kind of collectors item.
-

Laka so new for old.
It's just hard to find an equivalent, unless I spec a Look 795 at €4.5-5.5K which seems a bit much. -
• #1115
Best thing to do would be to ask them, safer than wrongly valuing the bike.

Anyone else find Laka super £££? I’m going back to Bikmo I think!
-
• #1117
Yep, I binned them off as soon as I could renew my house insurance and found one I could put my bullitt on. I was always paying the max rate, I liked the idea in principle but I just felt like I was paying a premium for everyone else

• #1118
Yeah, posted this before on here, but they wanted to put me up to £85 a month, lol.
So £85 a month but lots of free months for anyone who posts their referral code enough.

Who covered your Bullitt? My current provider has a £5k cap for anything in the garage.
-
• #1120
Homeprotect, it's underwritten by AXA, who I moved from, I've basically got the same policy as I had but I could add bikes over 5k with homeprotect but not with AXA directly.

Laka are in the process of rolling out a theft, liability and legal cover product. It's not listed on the website yet, but you can take a look here: http://www.laka.co/gb/core

I'm confused by the difference between this,'normal' Laka cover and Club Laka (which isn't a nightclub in Podgorica but gives you liability/legal cover).
-
• #1124
Laka Club is Liability and Legal. It protects the rider.
Laka Core is Theft, Liability and Legal, plus a few other bits. It protects the rider and the bike wrt a theft.
Laka's original policy is for Theft, Accidental Damage, Racing, Travel, plus a few other bits. It protects the bike. You can add Club if you wish. We're in the process of evolving things, adding Core is the first step.

Third party liability
Since I'm not renewing my BC membership (Shell!) I need cover for third party liability.
There is Cycling UK, but I'm not keen on them since thay have, in effect, destroyed the worthy organisation of the CTC.
Most of the other 'insurers' (brokers, surely?) offer a limit of £2 million, which doesn't seem enough in these inflationary times. Did you hear the story about the pedestrian who was knocked over by a motorist - not badly hurt, but he landed on his hand and lightly damaged one finger. This ended his career as a leading concert pianist! (Tragedy at Law, Cyril Hare)
I'm not really interested in insuring my bikes since their value is sentimental, but I am concerned about the (admittedly remote) possibility of damaging the wrong person in the wrong way.
Any suggestions?
