But still no XTR

News of 105 going Di2 and disc only comes at a time when I am at the end of my tether with both.
First the piston seal in my shifter failed out of warranty and now the bike shop tells me there’s a component draining the battery but E-tube doesn’t specify which component.
Is there a way of sorting this without plugging a different FD and RD in sequentially? I don’t suppose it will be a shifter problem and seems unlikely a cable could drain the battery.

Do you have a wireless module installed?
-
• #5155
No. I’ve never thought it would do much for me given the sort of cycling I do.
-
• #5156
Isn't that going to be a limit screw issue? If either are touching too much, it'll cause battery drain
-
• #5157
that is quite strange .. but not unfathomable
maybe as a last ditch attempt try e-tube-ing it yourself and see? Maybe a firmware update or a reset might do the trick? Worth trying a diff batt too. When you say drain, how quickly is it draining?
105 Di2 is a lost cause IMO. Unavailable, 12 speed and expensive.

Or that battery is old and cell has failed

LBS has serviced the gears so I assume the limit screws are set correctly.
@amey I’ll speak to the about a firmware update. It’s not draining so quickly that I can’t use it but I have to check it the night before I go out for a ride. This is the third bike I’ve had with Di2 and I’ve never encountered this before.

The bike is just over two years old.

I've done a lot of di2 repairs and yet to see a faulty component drain the battery. It is usually a damaged cable. Front derailleurs with the braze on mount supporting bolt not engaged onto the frame can be an issue.
A cable that has been pinched can easily short the rest of the system. Cables that don't insert into components and junction boxes with a nice clean click are also a problem.
My go to is to strip the bike completely and lay the system out on a table for inspection. If I don't find anything the I will methodically switch one part out at a time which takes a while until I find the culprit.

I'm sure the whole point of electric gears was that they didnt need ridiculous fixing...
-
• #5163
Blimey. I suspect I’ll just keep charging it every few days.

105 Di2 is here because ultegra bikes now cost 8-9 grand.

Will we see Tiagra step up to 11 speed and gain an army of devotees?
Re my battery woes, I think I’ll have to go down this route to sort it out. https://bettershifting.com/how-to-troubleshoot-di2-battery-drain-issues/

Dare I say it, but you wouldn't want it. Axs gx is so robust.
I cannot kill the derailleur. I'd have been through a few Shimano by now. Once place a weight penalty is worth it.

No, but I think we’ll see more Campag Chorus than we’ve seen in years…
I must admit that I thought Campag not following the trend of moving electronic down the range was suicidal, but I’m now starting to wonder if it might actually prove quite smart…

I’m running AXS mechs on two bikes with Shimano parts for every other component so there’s no rush from my side, just think it’s a funny omission from Shimano.

Ugh, battery drain here as well, 10% overnight. Granted, if its damaged cables most of the times I know exactly where to look. The RD cable got a bit mangled as it was a super tight fit to get it through the frame at the dropout. Remove BB, test with another cable routed around the frame, if confirmed I'll drill up the frame 0.5-1mm larger...
BUT I had my first 2 rides with a full di2 set (on my TT bike I have my "hacked" system with my 3D printed switches...etC), and I am really impressed.
Edit: Di2 wires lots of different sizes for £19, free UK shipping even for a single piece

Is Di2 autoshifting up from the bottom (largest) sprocket to the next gear up when under load a known thing?
Mine is doing it. I've backed off the lower limit as much as possible, but if I relax it any more I get spoke jangling music.
I'll try putting a wolf tooth in and see if it fixes it. Might give a bit more room to relax the limit. -
• #5172
Motor is pushing against the limit, then lowering one. Try straightening the hanger
-
• #5173
Yes, that's kind of what I thought. The hanger is straight but the Wolf Tooth should give a bit more space.
-
• #5174
Is it bent? That's usually when the thing is hitting the limit screws.
EDIT: Nekature said exactly the same thing so I've typed this for nothing.
In other news 11-36 cassette coming from Shimano

Is there any reason I shouldn't try and buy 105 Di2 for the grrl's Sequoia?
Not strictly necessary but because we're pushing the limits of her 105 cable RD shifting would be a bit better with Di2. Plus there's no need to adjust and travel is easier with full RD removal.
"3kg Di2 groupset"
Shimano have released 105 (7100) Di2, 12 speed, disc only
