  • Thought I'd open this up to the hive mind.

    I am converting my spoked motorcycle wheels to tubeless. The process I'm going with is:

    • Loctite 290 Threadlocker (Wicking Grade) dripped into the spoke/nipples
    • 3M Extreme Sealing Tape over the nipples in the rim bed

    I have some slight rusting, more crazing, around some of the spokes. Unfortunately it's quite hard to photo because of the shiny chrome vs the black rim.

    My questions are these:

    1. Do we think these small areas of rust need to be dealt with before applying the 3M tape?
    2. What rust product / process would you use? (bearing in mind we need an oil free surface and any possible risk of some of the product being left in the nipple thread)
