But I am interested in the opinion of a material scientist / metallurgist
A former neighbour was a PhD engineer who did a lot of consulting, in particular for component failure analysis. He spent enormous amounts of time using the scanning electron microscope at the Natural History Museum as part of his work. It was his primary tool for his work. He now leads Consumer Product Safety for Amazon in Europe.
Based on that piece of information and some cost benefit and basic risk analysis: swap out the bars.
Besides. They are clearly cursed. Or haunted.

Definitely the default choice, and I know it is accepted wisdom. But I am interested in the opinion of a material scientist / metallurgist.
Also interested in any anecdata to support the failure narrative, if anyone has any?
