I just did 3 days trail riding with the clutch off but I do have a narrow-wide front ring. I have full outer on the shift cable so it’s already a bit tough on the thumb, plus clutch is noticeable. I’d put it on for more extreme terrain.
Maybe you need to adjust tension on the clutch and service it if it's too stiff.
Yeah, might give that a go. The other solution is new frame.
