Passengers opening doors are the responsibility of the driver as far as I am aware.
The rider should have tried to get the drivers details or reg number and if they left the scene, phoned the police.
Good luck with sorting it although I think it's largely too late now. The passenger is not the one to be chasing although police may be able to ask them to identify driver if you have an open case, if not then I don't think you will end up with a satisfactory resolution
