  • The crash happened on 9th June, 9:25am at 1 Paternoster Sq., London EC4M 7DX, UK

    Map - https://www.google.co.uk/maps?q=51.5154355066345+-0.0991197583600378

Person A was a passenger inside a black Mercedes at the time, when the car arrived at the location, Person A opened the door from passenger side and struck my friend RIDER, who was cycling on his bicycle to work (Inside bike lane). RIDER sustained shock and some injuries on impact, and therefore could not obtain the number plate of the vehicle. Person A left phone number with RIDER and assured verbally to resolve the matters.

So far RIDER has only received one text message with no driver details, Person A has stopped communication. Police report was made.

Since I found out I have digged up Person A's details and made contact via SMS, called, FB, Instagram. We didn't hear back for 2 days and we went to Person A's house of resident. They did not answer but we got to speak with a neighbour, we exchanged details.

Since then the neighbour has passed on my information request, Person A has instructed a lawyer to write a cease and desist letter to me. But again, there is no information about the driver.

    ***"Dear Sirs,
We are instructed by Person A in connection with the incident of 6 June 2022.
Please cease and desist from contacting our client nor any related persons to our client nor to approach their premises. Please address any future correspondence on this matter to this firm.

    Yours faithfully,***

I reckon the lawyer is a friend, he couldn't even get the date right. Please give you opinion how to proceed.

  • The accident above destroy the Vanmoof bike RIDER was riding, and on yesterday 3rd July, RIDER had another major accident. The mudguard went into the front wheel and threw RIDER in the the road, right shoulder is broken and will take months to recover.

Chasing after Vanmoof for handing out a crap bike would be another fight we unfortunately have to take on.

  • Passengers opening doors are the responsibility of the driver as far as I am aware.
The rider should have tried to get the drivers details or reg number and if they left the scene, phoned the police.
Good luck with sorting it although I think it's largely too late now. The passenger is not the one to be chasing although police may be able to ask them to identify driver if you have an open case, if not then I don't think you will end up with a satisfactory resolution

  • ^ I can't add anything to this. But I do wonder whether the lawyer might happen to drive a black Mercedes...

Going to someone's home based on a phone number is not generally a good idea though.

  • Basically though, don't take advice from the internet. Go to a no win no fee solicitor.

  • Thank you. This means we must obtain the CCTV footage from the street. Probably only have few days left to do this as most systems only hold for 30 days.

  • Name led to companies house and then home address, all public information. Is this illegal?

  • No, I wouldn't have thought so. But I've never heard anything good come of similar situations.

Definitely lawyer up, as PhilDAS says.
