Who are you cheering for in le tour, and why? I don't have anyone to cheer for, because of lack of Cav. Who should I like? Geraint is a good egg, with an appealing line in slapstick with his crashes and his wardrobe malfunction. But his team always has evil sponsors and nasty management. Money rules.
In the Giro Donne I cheer for Chiara Consonni, because of this, which always renews my faith in cyling and in life generally https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=997350427265003 I also admire her team for doing such a sterling job of developing juniors, apparently in a supportive, sympathetic way, without bullying or misogyny. It's lovely to see a gaggle of them on Balsamo's wheel. https://cyclingtips.com/2022/06/valcar-travel-and-service-the-talent-factory-of-womens-cycling/

Bardet in the mountains, just so ITV get to play "his" tune.

I always like seeing van Aert doing well. I think the first two stages in France will suit him but he may be on duty for Roglic and Vingegaard to a degree.

Yes, it will be a sad day when Bardet retires.
Perhaps ITV, or the Never Strays Far podcast will have a last celebratory rendition of On a Ragga Tip? -

He seems a nice lad, never says or does anything horrible, but a lot of people are down on him. Why's that? Do they just like to kick him because he's young and popular?
-

It would be the least they could do.

Bardet and Pinot for me. Used to be very meh about Thomas but growing fond of him recently. Martinez purely cos of the facial hair. Would love to see Pederson go home with something after so much hype and prep from him after a strong spring. Of the big favourites, I want Roglic to win.

Also Chris Froome, obv

My partner is now very much rooting for Pete Kennaugh

Pinot and Bardet for me also. Would be nice to see Bardet get the mountain classification or something.

• #40787
That ^ is also for me, if only to put aside the misfortunes of past TdF.

Copycat.
Joking aside, Pinot is quite an emotional rider, at least when it goes wrong and that has stuck with me a bit. I wanna see the guy win.
Supporting Bardet a tad more though. Nothing to do with him being in my fantasy team of course.

Scott bikes when he was really good. You know before aero was invented…

The racing in Denmark has been fucking boring. They relied on the wind to shake things up and it didn’t blow in the right direction. Absolute snoozefest.
Are there no hills they could have put towards the end of one of the stages?
Great crowds though and Magnus Cort going solo was a bright point.

Nope. No hills. They were only here for the fans.

• #40793
That's not true. I'll let our resident Danes educate you properly.

It's not far off though.
There are e few hills, but I guess the location and infrastructure doesn't accomodate a tour stage.
They tried to include some of the popular climbs. The best known Kiddesvej is just next to the first côte of stage 3, but the street was apparently deemed too narrow so they took the other way up.
Mostly the routes seems to be about showing some nice landscapes and sites, I guess. -

The TT was exciting I thought, but it is pretty hard to make an exciting race parcours when it's flat everywhere and ASO requires wide roads for the finishing kilometres.
You could easily create something like a Belgian spring classic but not safe enough for the tour.Edit: what drøn said
You could make an amazing stage around Aarhus and Silkeborg with loads of elevation, but infrastructure issues and no close proximity to German motorway rules that out

It sounds good though.
I mean it's a marketing point. Good for retirees cycling trips.

• #40797
I'll just add that I had a fucking party of it!
So fun to have all the spectacle right at home. So many happy people celebrating. -
