How much wheat did you catch?

^ and did Theresa May run past you?

Wheat; none
May: remained unseen
It’s went surprisingly well all things considered. The distance was about a mile through a housing estate and two fields.
En route we were coming up with reasons why. Marathon training for global warming, team building prep…

Decided to harvest one of my spud pots. Think they were pentland javelin.
Honest impressions…
Good:- Skins and tubers immaculate. No damage to anything whatsoever. Barely need a wash.
- Harvesting was ridiculously easy, nothing skewered and no volunteers popping up next year.
- Compost was free.
- Very low input - watered once a week, max.
Bad
- yield could have been higher. About 1kg from 4 spuds. Full pack cost £2.50 from wilko and gave me 4 pots and one row of 7/8 at the allotment. So if it is representative of the whole yield then potentially 5-6kg which is a bit meh.
- Slight rubbery smell from the pots to them. It was maybe the soil and should fade next year but still, not great.
Will wait for the haulms to die back a bit before harvesting any more.

30L

Nice. Smaller than I was thinking for next year but might go with that as it would be good to use less compost

I posted a video a while back which explained the method. 4 earlies per pot and 2 maincrop. I’ve loosely copied that.

I’ve finally got a greenhouse on my plot. I don’t want to put a concrete slab down. Can I get away with using slabs around the edges.
-
• #2913
I’d be doing just some slabs if it were mine :)
-
• #2914
I’d do hardcore/sand/slabs here (not allowed a concrete base), but I’d do the whole thing rather than just the edges.

Made a banging potato salad with some of the spuds above today. Mustard, paprika, the lot. Excellent lunch.

Got most of the glass in but what a faff. Some of the pieces just don’t fit. And I didn’t take enough pictures.

It’s looking better than mine (some are ok, but it’s a bit hit and miss).
Lifted a few Garlic bulbs this eve. Looking pretty good (I’m ignoring the onions which are a disaster)

I had one corn germinate! I had to dig it up because it was in the space where the green house was.
Is it too late to plant corn?
-
• #2922
i think its too late - i had to pick daughter up from glastonbury last weekend so drove past a lot of fields. The pro farmers corn is up around 3 foot high, mine is about 18 inches

Been +ve for 9days, first -ve headed to allotment with daughter to see how bad it was.
Ended up lifting onions & Garlic, amateurish plait effort on some onions. Good haul of Broad Beans and Peas too.

Plan for next year, more broad beams. Radish’s never grown those. And try and finally get a good crop of sweet corn.

I’ll get pics tomorrow but my corn is looking pretty banging right now. Did a ‘fiesta mix’ of random heritage varieties, all seeds were diff sizes/colours but they’re getting on for 3ft so far and only went in as seedlings 3 weeks ago..
Does anyone on here use a dehydrator on fruit and veg?
