If you'd told me before the stage that he'd finish in the top ten, I'd have not thought that unusual. Winning is a surprise, but he's a talented rider who, I think, lacks the self belief and confidence to be a leader, and prefers to ride as a support rider instead.
He definitely had an advantage yesterday as it was drier when he rode and, as he doesn't have GC or stage winning expectations like most of the rest of the top ten, he could take more risks on the tricky parts.
It does seem Yves Lampart ride is pretty unprecedented for him. Is there any talk, from him or team, of why he's suddenly found a new level?
Is it a case he could throw all caution to the wind and take big risks on the corners? Unlike others.
