  • nice & functional bike

what was the mod on the ortlieb hangers to fit the pelago rack?

  • I had to trim some plastic from the ql1 clip slider to get them close enough together to fit.

"If you wish to succeed, you must brave the risk of failure."

  • Hopefully just cabling, grips and check all bolts/ loctite all rack bolts to do. 🤞

  • Dura ace downtube shifter to thumbshifter conversion didnt work on this setup.
But all is not lost. Channeled Kasparov and turn a sacrifice onto an advantage. 8sp indexed thumbshifter is now running 9sp friction, check.

  • Checkmate

    It's done.

  • Congrats, now you have teach Magnus Carlsen how to be a GM. Get beaten. Go on the tour.

  • Looking nice ..

  • I cut down a cheap Decathlon walking pole to fit under the top tube. Cut the plastic handle end off and fitted a bar plug to make it neater. I'm taking a tarp and hammock but will use the walking stick as a tent pole in the event we camp in a campsite.

Cheap 8sp indexed thumbshifter converted to friction.

Splashed out on some nice SKS guards and Nitto bars.

The basket is a chopped down supermarket basket.

Sleeping bag and spare tube are in the alpkit dry bag on the saddle. Camping bits (decathlon tarp and hammock plays an inflatable sleeping mat) are in one pannier. Clothes and wash bag in the other.

It rides nicely, the bars give a couple of hand positions. I'm looking forward to trying it out properly.

  • Which microshift deraileur did you go for?
I had some luck "adjusting" the bar end spacers to fit the sunrace shifter mounts with a dremel. I much prefer that setup to the sunrace shifters, though I haven't tried them converted to friction.

  • Advent 9sp, worked nicely with this setup.

  • In the wild

  • Interesting!
I was told by Microshift (on instagram) that they wouldn't play nice with friction shifting.

  • Rad bike! May I enquire what the front rack setup is? looks really interesting/something i may be after myself.

  • A large Pelago commuter rack, if I'm not mistaken.
I have a similar setup - albeit with a larger Wald on my dadbike.
It's not very light, but excellent quality and very sturdy (made of stainless steel)

  • Thanks. Does it fit to the canti bosses at all? Trying to work it out.

  • It does not - at least not without excessive amounts of faffing/bodging.
It mounts to the fork crown and dropout area with the supplied mounts.
I did have it setup with cantis at first, but there was a bit of interference with the straddle cable, so I switched to v-brakes.

  • Large Pelago
Fits to fork crown and either front axle or front mudguard boss.

  • Cheers. Rad bike, rad set up. Nice one!

  • I’ve slept on this thread - some vital inspiration for my GT gravel hybrid I reckon.

  • Now for sale!

  • Oh yeah, so I see! A short but sweet service.

Might be worth chucking a size on your sale ad btw
