  • Does the Ghibli have studs? They could have just packed the rear with 2mm washers to confirm fitment. Seen loads of people do this. Also if you do end up getting hubcentric spacers, it would be way easier and cheaper to have the inner bore turned to your desired size, rather than having your expensive wheels opened up.

  • Nope bolts. The rear will have spacers if i can make them fit and the the proper center bore on that spacer. Front do not have the space for a spacer so only solution would be increaing the dia of the center bore.

  • This really nice Jag parks around the corner from time to time. What does one of these costs today approx?

  • Meh still say they aren't great handling cars and only modern engine parts have made them competitive. These cost the same as the Fulvia and people bought the fulvia.

6 and 12 cyclinder engines are beautiful IMO but very old tech. Sound lovely down drafts webbers/dellorttos. If you disagree with me, you are wrong.

Cost, that is a mk1 so I'd say lots and lots...maybe a MK1 escort mexico less than a lotus cortina...

  • Given the front indicator location that looks like a Series 1 so about £150k for a good coupé. More for a rag-top. Even more if it's an early flat floor model.

  • Yeah i figured it was serious money but dident know it was quite that much. Its very nice tho, great color combo.

  • Yep, it's lovely, but even if I had £150k to blow on a classic sports car, I wouldn't be buying an E-type. They're nice, but they're not that nice.

  • They're beautiful, I very nearly bought one 25 years ago (series 1 flat floor coupe in primrose yellow). You have to ignore several simple facts; they don't go round corners, they don't stop, candles are more effective than the original lights, the claimed 150mph is a myth. But, they are beautiful.

  • So said Enzo

  • They are, but given the choice of 60s sports cars for £150k I'd prefer an AC Frua 428. Came close to buying one of them about 17 years ago for £20k. Rather regret not having done so now! It would have been a better investment than using it to increase the deposit on my house, which is what I ended up doing instead.

  • Yep. They didn't go particularly fasr at the time.

  • Enzo made a particular comment, as you should know.

Nothing to do driving the car

  • Depends on what 'fast' is, I would guess 125ish, which is plenty fast enough for something that doesn't corner or stop.

The one I nearly bought was £8.5k, it was going to be either that or a big Healy (ice blue over cream). Coming back from holiday to find my house was being compulsorily purchased to put the channel tunnel link through it (yep, the one that never happened) fucked that dream.

  • GT6 had more racing pedigree than the etpye, fulvia 1.3s with less than half the cc were quicker to 90 HFs were quicker over a ton at the time.

  • We are talking about the 60's.

    Before we were born.

  • I'd rather have a Lotus Sunbeam

  • Looks like Hiedfelds 1999 record might fall this weekend.

    Max Chilton wid da noise...

  • Nope, before YOU were born!

  • That has been commented on.

Is more Batman with shortman syndrome...

  • Whatever it is, I like it.

  • Customer of ours has three series 3. Two identical blue coupes, both restored by him. One with a V12 and one we converted to electric with 110kWh of batteries (he wants to drive from Leiden to Paris in one go because he did so when he was just married). The electric one was imported from the States where someone fitted a V8 so we didn’t feel bad inserting a electric motor.
He also has a convertible that’s awaiting restoration.

  • thoughts on this:

my dad has a 3.6 Legacy Outback, but it's basically knackered now and he wants to replace it with something which has the same combination of:

    engine with torque and poke
    auto
4WD, somewhat raised ride height desirable but not necessarily essential
    estate body

budget £10-£15k for maybe a 5 year old car [edit - having had a quick trawl through autotrader, I can see that used car prices are even more nuts than I thought they were so this budget and age may not be realistic].

The new Outback has the 2.5l flat 4 which s fairly anaemic at 169PS, so that's not an option. What else is out there? AMG / M levels of performance is not what's required, I'd guess in the region of 250BHP would be ideal.

  • just seen this - shame his dog has chewed up the interior of his as the 3.6 seem to command decent money now:

  • Given the estate body have given way to the SUV I can't think of much. And that budget is surely tight for a 5 year old car now things are mad.

Spend a few grand rejuvenate the legacy?

Having an old 2004 outback i really do love it. So capable at everything and just takes abuse. The autobox in it is shit, but put it in manual mode and it is Jekyll and Hyde transformation.

Maybe you could look at a volvo xc60, but not sure if fast enough or estate enough.
