  • I did the same thing trying ultraracing coming from supported TTs. Dropped the Torq gels and started using servo food.

I doubt he's been training on his Ensure drinks if he's not going to be able to get them in 95% of locations.

  • How long until Strasser is off-road? Place your bets!

  • For RAAM he uses liquid food. It would be feasible to take a few kgs of powders with him if he wanted to do a bit of that.

I thought it would be smart to do that on IndyPac and wrecked my mouth with ulcers so don't recommend it, but he knows what he is doing and will have tested everything many times.

  • No. 3rd yes.

  • He needs to do the big events for sponsorship. So after TCR what would be next? Tour Divide? Silk Road?
    So probably not that long!

  • After Bartolameus?

  • Tcr and SRMR are further apart than RAAM and tcr.

  • Yes. He's on another level.

  • I don't know who else is racing though. You clearly have inside info.

But I'll bet you a DIPA he does better than 3rd.

  • Ulrich is.

  • Quite the thing. The two best in the world.

  • His jockey wheels are too big for Transcontinental :)

  • @frank9755 I know you dotwatched.

Someone asked me why people get penalties, but I can't really say why beyond just 'riding a road they shouldnt'. Can you elaborate as to why?

  • I think it's mostly different variations of exactly that.
At the extreme end it's doing a bit of motorway. Usually it's nothing like the M1, but maybe a short bit joining two OK roads, or a quiet motorway with a hard shoulder that all the locals use to cycle on because its actually better (and probably safer) than the other roads, or going the wrong way down a slip road to miss out a big junction. Or it could be a 'car only' A road, which are common in Germany, Hungary and elsewhere. Or a road where cycling is allowed but which the race has banned. This might be specific tunnels, or E roads in Romania, etc.
It could also be missing out a bit of parcours.
I can't think off the top of my head any other common reasons people get penalties.

  • I'm also picking up a rumour that another well-known and very successful supported long distance rider might be riding, which would make it even more interesting, if it turns out to be true....

  • It's true.

  • Do they have the initials MB?

  • My allegiances lie with Daniele Fonelli on his fixie. Got to ride and hang with him in Bosnia and he's an absolute gent as well as a bit of a maniac. Never had a dot to watch until now.

    Any other fixies involved?

  • Apparently Ian To is riding again.

Can't imagine who you are thinking of ;)

  • Any other fixies involved?

Not heard of any. I don't think Ivan is riding again.

  • Ian To

He is. Met him and his partner on Fenland Friends over the weekend. They were on a tandem, rapid. Both very nice.

  • That's good.

Did you follow his experience from 2017? I felt he was a bit unfortunate.

I missed FF. Down with the lurgis and wife had to go away to look after her mother, so couldn't do it for two reasons, which felt a bit better than just having one. Shame as I could have done with another long ride.
