  • knew a guy at work, who hadn't missed going to glastonbury for a decade or more.
He's going this year as well.
I went to the big chill festival three years in a row, and the law of diminishing returns was STRONG by the time I did the third one.
I'm not a fan of glastonbury, I don't understand the veneration for it, but I could probably force myself to go at least once, just to see what the fuss was about, but inwardly be thinking it's not all that..
Much prefer european festivals, better weather, and better/more varied line ups than uk ones.

    anyway back to the hating.

  • Does it? Espresso based just gets poured over ice and water/milk added.

Cold brewed just poured in a cup like a jug of coffee but with ice added.

I'd hazard that pouring over ice is quicker than steaming milk..

  • but I could probably force myself to go at least once, just to see what the fuss was about

Genuine question...is there a festival anywhere in the world that can beat Glastonbury for genre diversity and size of lineup?

  • Fans of their music I guess.

I guess so but I don't think anybody I know has ever gone there for a headliner. Apart from maybe my wife who came along to see PJ Harvey once.

  • I never went once for a headliner. Was always about the little tents and stages, plus random shit going on. I think at least two I went to I never went anywhere near the Pyramid Stage all weekend

  • Working festivals is so much better than being a punter.

  • I never went once for a headliner

Similar for me but every time I went to see one of the headliners that people (mostly who don't go to Glastonbury) complained about, I was absolutely blown away by them.

  • This is how I did my first two Glastonburys working for an event sound company. Totally agree.

  • Depends on your idea of genre diversity, I see the Glastonbury lineup and I see a shit load of rock, and indie, followed by legacy headliner and then further down the line, whatever electronic “band” is flavour of the month/year and then some black music, with some experimental/folk/world music shaken in at the end.

I have no interest in rock or indie so Glastonbury doesn’t rise much in my estimation.

  • You're probably right about it being indie focused but don't forget that the lineup poster doesn't include everybody playing.

There are over 40 stages and 500 bands on the bill iirc.

  • Diversity at Glastonbury, you say?

    Dead link.

But I assume you're talking about race rather than music genre.

Glastonbury is supremely white and middle class. Nobody can argue with that.

  • .is there a festival anywhere in the world that can beat Glastonbury

    diwali? eid?

  • Glastonbury is exclusively for teenagers from Tunbridge Wells.

  • Does it? Espresso based just gets poured over ice and water/milk added.

    Sir,

I come to this thread with the sole intention of having a god old moan.

I have no interest in your 'fancy-pants' reasoned argument or cold logic.

    Thank you.

  • diversity isn't about headcount, especially if you're down at the bottom of the bill, and in a tent at 11am on a saturday morning, that no one but people who know you are going to come to.

  • Despite my hate above, I bet the people under, say, 30 who are going are bloody looking forward to it.

Old(er) people on cycling forums are not the Glastonbury target audience.

Young me hates old me. Old me hates the young me that I'd be today.

  • Just had an e-mail from my daughters school telling them not to go in because of train strikes.

They were set the following homework:

****your homework is to watch/listen to as much Glastonbury as you can this weekend. It’s all over Radio 6 Music and has its own channel on BBC iPlayer. Missing for 3 years and now it’s back.
    Here’s the line-up:
    https://www.glastonburyfestivals.co.uk/line-up/line-up-2022/

    SO much good music.****

Didn't get homework like that when I were a lad!

  • Don't be ridiculous.

It's also for mid 30s HR managers from Tunbridge Wells

  • Last time I went I was 33 and I felt fucking old.

  • I thought it was mainly for whoppers who work in investment banking that want to paint their face and pretend they are hippies for a weekend?

As someone who dislikes gigs, camping, crowds, drugs, over priced food stalls, face paint, being dirty, queues, traffic, and spending more than a couple of hours with anyone but my direct family, I recognise I am not the target audience.

  • Dead link.

    Fixed and also here

But I assume you're talking about race rather than music genre.

    No, not just that.

  • Yeah same actually

  • whoppers

    Not heard that before
    Wasitmean?

  • probably. Never been and don't plan on changing that. My uninformed opinion is that it's full of people who think a pint of Peroni is an adventurous choice.
